100% cotton

14 January 2009

I clipped this picture from Ballard Designs because I loved something in it. It's not the window treatments or the table~it's what is on the table. The cotton stems! Since we moved to Texas, I have been a bit obsessed with cotton. I had never seen a cotton field in person before and it's kind of fascinating to me to see the fields of white in the fall. I guess it would be like someone moving to Montana and never seeing a field of wheat before.Speaking of Montana, my mom is here visiting from there and we went cotton picking in a vacant field that is for sale. Are we crazy?

Yes, but it was fun and look how pretty it looks in a big apothecary jar in our bedroom...
and you can't beat free. :) She's taking some home for a memory of her time in Texas too. I think it would be perfect in a bathroom too. What we won't do for some great jar fillers...

  3. That is so funny I was just looking at the Ballard catalog last night and noticed the very same thing! I grew up in Georgia and worked in a cotton gin. You can take the cotton out of the burr and add ribbon and a red berry and it makes a cute star like ornament. The cotton is pretty all by itself in a wooden bowl. I have also seen wreaths made out of it. Ah memories. I now live in Texas as well. I will have to look for some of those cottons fields! :)

  7. That's really cool! I can't believe there is cotton just randomly growing on a vacant lot. How funny! I love the cotton in the vase - it looks really refined and rustic.

    Have a great day!

  8. Awww, the cotton memories. As children we would drive by acres of cotton fields when we visited my Dad's parents in North Alabama.

Looks lovely in your apothecary jar.

  9. Those look so pretty! I wish I lived near some cotton fields.

Congratulations on your new baby boy!
I'm partial to the name you picked. My youngest son has the same name, but we spell it Landen because my husband liked it better that way.

  12. First of all, congratulations on your new little Landon. I can only imagine the joy he is bringing to your other little ones. LOVE the cotton in your jar. I used your idea of the big peppermint sticks in there at Christmas and linked to your site to give you the credit. : )
Thanks for the great tips with the calendaring!!

  14. I know I'm at least a year late commenting her, but I was re-reading your older posts trying to get some inspiration. I've lived in the South my entire life & practically surrounded by cotton fields. It's so pretty when it blooms, reminds me of growing up. I actually think I'm gonna have the kids pictures taken in a few this year.
