bunny makeover

05 March 2009

Meet a dark gray bunny rescued from a yard sale for 50 cents: ( I started spray painting and then remembered to take a picture for my before) Here she is sitting on the piano feeling much more sleek and put together for her spring debut:

She felt even better when the spring PB catalog came on Monday and guess what was inside on p.18? :

Her cousins~but they cost $24 and $29. She got the same look for much less and feels pretty smug about it. Plus, she already has a home and maybe she can make friends with the roosters.

I'm making up thoughts for ceramic bunnies?? The spray paint fumes are finally taking their toll...

  1. Love this! I got my PB magazine yesterday and loved those bunnies too. Yet again, another wonderfully thrifty and creative find.

  2. You do find the best finds - it looks just like PB (my favorite catalog to copy!)

  3. Love the look of those rabbits...So it isn't the expensive spray paint you have to buy...So only can you used was the .97 one at Walmart...the one from the rooster post. I always get the gloss and I think it runs around 3-4 dollars...now I can buy the cheaper one and get the same look but to me this looks even better.

Oh yeah I sent you an email.

  20. Well hello, everyone! Yes, it's just the good old wal-mart cream (I think they call it almond) spray paint. There isn't any choice at mine between flat or glossy, I just pick up what's there, but I would say this is glossy. It's not .97 anymore~mine raised the price to $1.12! How dare they! I didn't use primer~just sprayed it on until it was covered, let it dry, gave her a ribbon, and that was it. She's blushing at all of your compliments:)Thank you...

  23. You make me laugh! If anything, this blog of yours gives me a good dose of my Melissa! Don't get me wrong, I love all of the ideas too, but your comments and talking for a bunny isn't much different than giving a voice to our babies. You've given a voice to the bunnies! Grandma would be proud!:)

  24. Melissa... do you have any idea why my spray paint (exact kind you have) is dripping off everything with out completely coating it? little gray bunnies from dollar tree are looking creamy-ish, but with lots of gray showing through. Dripped right off a clearance frame from target, and a ugly plate that needed to be cute-i-fied with a coat of white. Its not sticking? Help!

  30. I'm laughing at myself, and my continuing ability to be amazed by the power of spray paint!

  31. I love it, Melissa! I want to get the PB catalog, now - so many cute ideas. So I need help with my spraypaing as well, it's been a while since I've done it because it's been so cold, but my spraypaint doesn't dry very well. It shows the drips - and maybe it's not drying or sticking because of the cold - I'm just not sure. You should do a post on how to get your spray paint to look so smooth. Love you!

  34. mtanner and Krishin~ sorry you're having problems with the paint. It sounds like on your surfaces, you may need to prime first. If it's really slick or glossy, I usually use a coat of gray primer first. Also, if it is too cold, it's not going to dry as well and drips do tend to be a problem. Shake the can really well, and do light, short strokes, let those dry and then do following coats. This will help with the drips. It just takes some practice~I hope it works!

  35. Don't you just love it when that happens? I'm kind of the junkin'spray paintin' queen around here. My irritant is when I forget to take a "before" picture. And eventually I see something in a magazine that's similar or alike to what I've restored and I can hardly contain myself...skipping to my husband & saying "Jim! Look! It's just like the such and such that I bought for $2 and painted black". He smiles, pleased...but, his smile is a little bit smirky as I seem to be over reacting! Life is good...all I need is junk and spray paint!

  36. I love the rabbit! You can save so much money if you can visualize things with a coat of paint!

    Love it! = )
