kitchen hutch makeover

29 April 2010

Do you remember my $30 Craigslist hutch?
Well, we’ve left it in the kitchen~it fits perfectly in between the pantry and the laundry room (closet) and just made it more functional for our family:

I lined the open cabinets with some ticking stripe fabric from Walmart of all places~I just stretched it and then staple gunned the fabric to the inside.

If you open the cabinet, you’ll see my little white TV I found on Amazon that fits perfectly on the shelf. (We got it in January when they were having a promo)april 2010 008
I can open the doors when I want a little tv fix while I’m in the kitchen or folding laundry. This is our only TV upstairs, so I’m glad it can be hidden when I want it to.april 2010 012
We took out the cute white drawer (I want to re-purpose it somewhere..) and unscrewed the track and used the area to put our satellite receiver.april 2010 009
I just tacked some linen napkins up from Target’s 75% Easter clearance and the cool thing is that the remote will send the signal through the fabric so it can stay permanently hidden without having to lift it up. Wahoo!april 2010 006   I’m playing with accessorizing the top part and looking for a little lamp, but you may recognize some of my thrifty treasures up here :)
The best thing about this hutch?? I didn’t have to paint it! I heart Craigslist.
Happy Thursday, y’all~

  1. Wow, that is a great find! I am always scouring craigslist and nothing yet. Other than my stationary bike that is staring me down as I type since I haven't used it in awhile. Oh, stop by and visit my blog when you get a chance. It's hard to get started! :)

  5. That is such a cute piece! I really like the fabric in the doors. Sometimes Walmart will surprise me but I still try my best to avoid that place.

  30. Melissa --

This looks great! I always enjoy reading about your transformations. But, I've got to ask -- how do you find all these pieces on Craig's List? Do you just search for a specific piece of furniture like "hutch" or "end table"? Or do you just browse and stumble upon it? I'm so curious, because I've never had much luck finding furniture on Craig's List...
