august 2010 008 1 I was hoping the sun would come out today to take some fab pictures, but no such luck. Rain, rain go away.

  5. I'm loving that color! That totally makes the whole lamp. My Habitat store has a huge supply of the world's ugliest brass lamps. Now I know they can be beautified :)

  8. Nice color choice, Melissa! I was recently admiring lamps this color at Home Goods {or Marshalls, I forget which}. The paint really adheres good to the brass, too.

  9. Melissa-Great job on the lamp. Isn't spray paint the best thing ever invented?? I just spray painted stainless steel napkin rings. What caught my eye is the poster over the sofa. I have been looking for that one. It is one of my all time favorite movies! Love that color blue!

  13. Did the same to three brass lamps with flat black paint--SO much nicer (and they sold a billion times faster and for more cash on craigslist that way)

  17. Love this lamp!!! I looked long and hard for the lamp I could transform, even bought the turquoise spray paint so I would be prepared. But alas, my heart was stolen by a lamp at TJ Maxx!!!

  20. I'm also all about sassy brassy lamps. You just can't beat the price -- lamps are expensive!!! Well, the pretty ones are. I heirloom whited one earlier this summer and it just so happens to be in the background of a picture I had on craig's list. No one has bought the couch yet, but I've had no less than two dozen emails about whether or not the lamp was for sale. Crazy.

  23. I have a brass lamp that I've been wanting to paint. I was going to go with a brushed nickel finish, but now after seeing that blue, I'm going to have to rethink it.

  31. When painting brass, is there any kind of prep work to be done first or do you just start painting?  I found a lovely brass lamp at a garage sale for only $2 but needs a shade.  I think it would look so much better painted as you have done to yours.  I love all  your ideas that I have seen so far.

  32. Had a hideous shiny brass fixture in my dining room.  I used pewter and black paint which I applied with small sponges to to paint it and it now looks amazing...spray painted the black metal shades ivory and VOILA!!  New fixture!  Looks amazing...wish I could add a pic
