parade of homes + lauren’s room!

05 April 2011

I am excited to be part of the Parade of Homes from Poppies at Play today! I am Number 12~you can see all the participants here and Chris @ Just a Girl was right before me.

My name is Melissa and here is my sweet family:
2010 family pic 2 We have lived in our current home for just over a year. You can see what it looked like when we first looked at it here.

Here are the areas we’ve tackled so far. (but look at what’s left! yikes…)
Upper Level
home layout 1
Basement:basement after plan_thumb1
And don’t even think my house always looks like this. Not even close. She’s all gussied up for pictures and they were fun to take when the projects were completed, but then it’s life back to normal clutter and chaos the way we like it. :)

And we just completed my oldest daughter’s room! I’ll give more details later, but here are some pics:  april 2011 074 1april 2011 104 1april 2011 116 1

That’s all for today, but tomorrow the tour continues at Infarrantly Creative, no. 13!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. Oh my!  I found a pic of your daughter's room on Pinterest.  The quilt is very similar to one my grandma made for me for my HS graduation (1987).  I have it on our guest room bed.  I've tried to use some someone bright decor in the room as well.  So glad to see someone else has such a colorful quilt and is not afraid to use it!  Also, I love the quote and am thinking of using it for my daughter's room.  Time to replace some of her babyish decor since she is 7 1/2 now.

  3. I love your daughter's new room!!! It is so grown up yet still has a touch of child to it! Just beautiful!!! I have to ask where you got the red and white polka dot mat for the picture frame? I need one so badly and can't seem to find one.

  9. I KNEW you were mormon! i was curious if you were, and after i commented, i clicked on your "faith" button and you are! even though i haven't searched your blog extensively or seen any of the major mormon indicators (CTR signs, "Familes are Forever!" signs, pics of Christ in your home- I'm sure you have them, i just haven't seen them in what i've looked at this morning) i FELT like you were by the way you talk about your family. what a great example you are! (and talented too!)

You have a beautiful home. So many beautiful rooms. Interestingly enough, just yesterday I was on a site called inspirationfordecoration.blogspot.com, and your bathroom was on her site, so I added it to my pin board on pinterest.com because I love it! :-)

    Hi Melissa-

You have created such a bright and cheery home in the past year. I do not know how you find the time as a busy mom of 5. Your daughter's room is coming along nicely - she must be loving it. Looking forward to seeing your kitchen.

    My best- Diane

Your daughter's bedroom turned out beautifully!! I love the color palette you chose and how bright and fresh it looks. She must love it. I also have to say that your family photo is just too cute for words. What a beautiful bunch you have. :-)

We scotchguarded it so everything has mostly wiped off, but it's more of the
"quiet" room~no tv in there, etc. so we don't eat in there and that helps
    alot.

I actually prefer it that way to keep the bones neutral so I can change out
the curtains, pillows, accessories, etc. without spending a lot of time and
    money...

love it all! I noticed that your living room walls and carpet are similar colors. I am about to do that in our bedroom, but I'm afraid of it all looking like one color (tan.) it looks great in your picture, but how is it in real life having the walls and floor (basically) all the same color?

  24. I love that saying that is framed...... I may have to steal that! Hope you don't mind. Your house is gorgeous, btw.
