top 10 things we’ve noticed about Utah + $100 Curél® giveaway

19 May 2014

It’s almost been a year since we’ve been here and we are loving it. As with any move, you can’t help but notice the customs and little tendencies about your new state:
 photo swimming_zps139bd011.jpg

10. It is so family friendly and deal friendly – family passes and discounts everywhere. The pool, bumper boats, discount theaters, miniature golf, baseball and basketball games. There are always good deals to be found!
   photo bumperboats_zpsd4c7dff7.jpg

9. Gorgeous hikes and outdoor recreation EVERYWHERE.
 photo timpanogasfalls_zps461ac89e.jpg
8. They love fry sauce --- it is on every menu! Love it. What is fry sauce? A combination of ketchup, mayo, and secret seasonings.
 photo frysauce_zps8ecac085.jpg
7.  They like embellished jeans. I see these on bums big and small everywhere.
 photo embellishedjeans_zps0ba1a5cc.jpg
6.  Food prices are amazing here! Well, compared to where we have lived. Like, this whole flat of raspberries (12 pkgs) was $12.99. With 7 mouths to feed, I’m in love. photo raspberries_zps0c7c5217.jpg
5. There is a Utah accent! sell = sale, melk = milk, rill dill = real deal, Mondee = Monday, American Fark = American Fork, crick = creek, eltse = else, pin = pen

4. They like landscaping curbing --- they had this a lot in Idaho when we lived there, but we didn’t see it much in Texas and Virginia. I would say about 75% or more of the yards around us have curbing.
 photo landscapecurbing_zps398b06b3.jpg

3. They love to decorate! It seems every office you walk into is decorated: The school, the dentist, the sports recreation office, even gas stations here have cute quotes, shelves, plants, pictures around. photo officedecor_zpse5e47bc2.jpg

2. The after school pickup! In Virginia and Texas, after school was closely monitored. I’m talking walkie–talkies, they knew which bus you were on, which car was yours, whether you were a walker or a car rider, and you couldn’t go home with a friend unless you had a note signed by both parents and notarized (kidding—kind of). At our school here, the bell rings and watch out. The kids just RUN out and they trust that everyone will get to where they are going safe and sound. My kids love the freedom, I kind of miss the order of it all.

1. It is DRY here. Not a stitch of humidity which is awesome for weather, not so much for the skin. Our skin has gone through some major adjustment, but this has been our lifesaver:

 photo curelsummerlotion_zpsd8b77dc4.jpg Curél® Itch Defense® Lotion.

It doesn’t smell, it’s thick & rich and your skin just drinks it up and it stays to defend and heal your dry skin, especially during the summer months. It is not a cheap, smelly bargain lotion but a please-heal-my-dry-skin-so-I-can-enjoy-my-summer-without-worrying-about-it. photo curelitchdefenselotion_zps1946ccf1.jpg

We have some sensitive skin in our family and I can’t tell you the difference it’s made on the upper arms for my daughter. Rough, bumpy, itchy is now soothed, smoothed, hydrated skin without any irritation from dyes or perfumes. Curél® Itch Defense® Lotion is gentle enough for babies over 6 months old and has received the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance and you can pick it up from most stores and available on Amazon.

  3. Loved your Utah observations! We lived in Sandy, UT over 20yrs ago...and I remember several items on your list. Oh my heck...there is curbing EVERYWHERE! :) I even added it to my yard...thanks for the morning laugh!

  4. Lotion/Cream, immediately after showering. Always wear sunscreen. I live in southern Idaho, this is imperative!

  5. Here in East Texas, we don't have a problem with lack of humidity (96% today)! My son does get dry skin when he's in the swimming pool a lot, and we usually use Eucerin lotion. He has extremely sensitive skin...I'll have to give the Curel a try!

  7. Summer isn't the time we have a big issue with that...now mid-Jan, when it is crazy cold and there is no humidity to be found is when we have the worst issue with dry skin. So glad we are heading into summer! We love Bee Silk lotions and coconut oil as well!

  15. Dry, itchy skin is definitely a problem in our family!! We try to drink lots of water...but our favorite lotion is Hemps...but the $20 a bottle price tag isn't our favorite!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ha ha, we've lived all over the country too and Utah definitely has its own culture! When we moved from a more humid climate our skin paid the price. I use a lot of Eucerin cream it works great but is really greasy. I will have to try the curel. Thanks

  27. This post was perfect timing! My daughter has super bumpy dry skin and I was just looking at Target.com for lotions and wondering about the Curel. We are your neighbor, in the Nevada desert. It is so dry here, luckily the summer isn't as bad as the winter. But I have discovered the natural stuff- coconut oil, and especially shea butter, it what it takes to keep things moisturized.

  82. Sometimes I put petroleum jelly on my boys legs and arms before they go to bed. I use it on my feet - especially during the summer when I wear flip flops practically every day. Yep dry air in Utah is not skin friendly for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I keep a stick of foot balm in my purse to use when my sandals start to rub. It sort of looks like a fat tube of Chapstick, but it has the consistency of an invisible solid deodorant, and it really works! I get it from Avon.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Glad you're enjoying Utah - it's where I live too!! I discovered this Curel lotion a little while back and it's all my family uses for our horrible, dry, excema covered skin. It really has been a life saver and I love how it provides a soothing feeling to the skin, almost like you can feel how it's protecting it from the dryness.

  87. I just happened upon your blog but this post caught my attention, and I just really feel like the reason everything is decorated and such is ...MORMONS. they seriously have to be the nicest people in the world. I mean, I am sure there are some that stink, but for the most part, Mormons really take care of things and love to decorate and make things homey...and this is coming from a non-denominational run of the mill christian. lol. I am not sure if you are mormon, but the cheap prices, the freedom for children and the decorating all screams mormon to me...so I am glad you are enjoying it.
