windows with dark trim

21 October 2014

I used to think that windows with black trim were for sleek, ultra modern homes. Now, I’m seeing them pop up everywhere, even in traditional settings.

What do you think -- are they here to stay or a passing trend? Are you a fan of windows with dark trim or do you prefer the traditional white?

  1. I think I like it on the outside, especially if you forgo shutters on your windows. However, I am not a fan of it on the inside. The house we currently own was bought with light tan vinyl replacement windows and they are that color on the inside and outside of the house. It looks great on the outside but I hate it on the inside because it doesn't match our white trim. I just hope a perspective buyer likes it so we can move on and build our forever home.

  2. I think it's a nice way to get some life out of aging windows - to make the styling more "intentional" and less "I'm trying too hard to make my tired wooden windows look like updated vinyl ones". But I probably wouldn't go that route when replacing with vinyl. Too design-chicken, I guess.

Me too! I can appreciate them and think they look lovely in some settings, but I wouldn't choose them for my own home.

As someone who grew up in a 70's built neighborhood, black window frames were all I knew...maybe that's why they scream "dated" to me? That being said, they look fabulous in those photos! It's amazing what you can get away with when you have amazing architecture (and a huge wallet) to back it up :)

  8. Well this is awesome sense I just finished painting the windows and French door in my newly renovated kitchen black. I actually used a color by Sherwin Williams called iron ore which was more of a very very dark charcoal. It was a little less harsh than the black
