freshening up a bit

28 April 2015

What’s fun about doing dishes?

Nothing.

But what if you brighten your sink area with soap in pretty containers and you display it on a little pedestal instead letting them hiding under the dark sink? I totally stole this idea from my friend Robin’s instagram!

Tip: you don’t have to refill with the expensive stuff -- Dawn makes a clear dish soap too.

My sisters gave me the cutest oven mitts from anthro for my birthday. I couldn’t bear to hide them in a drawer so I hung them on a $4 hobby lobby hook by the oven.

The mud room was a disaster. Should have taken a picture, but messes don’t always inspire me to grab my camera. We took all of the boots, winter coats, and snow pants down to storage and it lightened everything up so much. You can see the bench. And the floor! And the shoeboxes I toss on the top shelf for diorama/valentine box projects at school.

I find that when I take a few minutes to create some beauty whether it's getting the laundry off the kitchen table, completely wiping the counters down and lighting a candle, or giving the floor a good scrubbing it motivates me do something else. Like getting my buns out to weed instead of just pinning beautiful landscaping pictures.

  3. So true! We have a mudroom space too. I love it to death but laugh at the pictures I see on Pinterest and other places. They always look so perfect but ours, like yours, is a working space.

  4. I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one to refill cool containers with less expensive products! When we moved into this house, Preston got me a cool sink and lotion container from Restoration Hardware. I've now been using it for 10 years, but I've never once bought RH soap or lotion! I just refill the bottles with Dial and Jergen's. Love that pedestal--looks like Jadite! (not sure if I spelled that right!) And those anthro pot holders are so cute. Your sisters know you well, don't they?

I'm in the process of getting some projects done right now. It is true that doing one little thing will inspire you to do another. Just like the Law of Inertia in physics, right? A body at rest will tend to stay at rest; a body in motion will tend to stay in motion. Way to move, sweet friend!

Maybe she's private. I put the link to go to her main page, see if it works?

  7. Is your microwave in your pantry? If so, do you like having it there?

Yes! I love having it and the toaster in there. It is regular counter height so kids can use it and messes stay in there. :)

I'm ready to get rid of the snow clothes too but it's still spring in Colorado...you just never know! Might need them one more time! LOL
