I called the realtor and he gave me an extra FIVE minutes to get things cleaned up. ( He obviously was not a mom)! Thankfully I have a shampooer so I was able to get it cleaned up and then I ran around the house like a made woman with a loaf of pillsbury italian bread fresh from the oven to try and cover up the smell! This all served as a little reminder that no matter what you do to prepare you can't control everything so you just have to make the best of it! Good luck with your house sale!Sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08173114829739436295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4094626877865766804.post-80642144214343039482009-11-04T12:09:28.000-07:002009-11-04T12:09:28.000-07:00Thank you for keeping it so real! I too stressed for YEARS that everything just had to be 'right' for events, holidays, special occasions. *I* missed OUT on some of the FUN while STRESSING over it. The kids NOTICE the stress not the money spent. The REAL VALUE is in how they FEEL. Wish I'd known this years ago. I say this as I am writing notes for dinner tonight...getting off work early bc my 23 yr old son will be home (rare) and I want to make the night 'special'. LOL I am shopping the house and setting a tablescape, making a fav SIMPLE dish of his for dinner and will light candles. So it's still low key...but hopefully we can sit around the table and just ENJOY.Sherrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10860213134940989096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4094626877865766804.post-6856398259387434412009-11-04T08:45:29.350-07:002009-11-04T08:45:29.350-07:00Ya know what? We stayed home and our family's best friends came over (our girls are BFFs, the mom and I are BFFs and our husbands are BFFs, too). I let them carve the pumpkins we had been gifted, we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows & made homemade caramel apples. It was relaxed and simple and soooo much fun! No costumes, no rushing, just laid back & relaxed. Alot shorter than we had anticipated but it still felt like forever. It is soooo tiring trying to keep the house spotless but my boys ended up getting into it by straightening the pillows before we left for a showing and going around turning on all the lights. Those ended up being their jobs. They were really good actually. We spent many afternoons sitting down the street from our house waiting to go back home while watching movies in the mini van.<br />I pray that your home sells quickly!!Pamelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18283260830637529760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4094626877865766804.post-11834332120587233302009-11-04T06:57:32.407-07:002009-11-04T06:57:32.407-07:00Duct tape your kids to the couch is TOO funny. We strive for the expressions on their face when we have gone above and beyond, it is a "mom" or "parent" thing. I just sold our house w/a deployed hubs, a 3 year old boy, a newborn boy, and a dog and found it ridiculously helpful to have a movie (or cartoons that you can rent through Blockbuster) specifically for the days when I had an hour until a showing and needed to touch up. I also had a laundry basket (a giant one) that I would throw everything that couldn't be easily cleaned up into. I don't know if it helps, but I figured I'd pass it along. I know how stressful it all can be.
