So, I had seen these shelves in Target and thought how great they were but how easy it would be to make them out of a pallet and it was really even on my project to-do list! Then last you know week the 40% off sale came and I realized that $13.79 shipped to my house was better than getting a pallet, probably gashing myself while cutting the pallet apart, putting hooks on to hang it on the wall, and boards to support the back, then buying a dowel and a drill bit that would be as wide as that dowel. And then adding those s-hooks too!
I told you that I went through all my treasures for our youth yard sale and only kept the things I knew I would realistically get to. This was one thing I kept: do you remember this $9 cart from the thrift store??
I have been wanting to put up something to block the setting sun on our back porch since we moved in. It’s hard to have conversation and enjoy your meal when the sun is glaring in your eyes, right? And we have lived here for 2 years and we’re just getting around to it which is right on Melissa schedule. :)
Hello! This is our son’s room downstairs – finally! I’ve shared some of the projects along the way and now I am ready to add it to our Utah home tour. :)

Ok. Mudroom and laundry room are checked off, it’s time to head downstairs and start on my oldest boy’s room. We began last spring and painted his desk and hung the map, but then we were trying to decide on how to finish everything and it kind of got pushed to the back burner. So now we’re back!! He wanted some shelves to display some of his favorite things so this is what we came up with:
Decide how many shelves and how long you want them to be. Go to your local home store (we went to Home Depot) and pick up a 12 ft pine board for $16. We were going to do 3 shelves, so we had them cut them (they will do it for free, but I find going in on a weekday is best since the weekend tend to be very busy) into 3 equal pieces.
Sand the corners if you want to, and then apply stain.

Almost 2 years ago I shared this picture on Instagram of some treasures I had found at yard sales. I adored the little crystal chandelier that I got for $2, but it was pretty small and only one light.
As the year comes to a close, it's always fun looking back on projects from 2015. Here are the top ones at 320 Sycamore:

What’s fun about doing dishes?
Nothing.
But what if you brighten your sink area with soap in pretty containers and you display it on a little pedestal instead letting them hiding under the dark sink? I totally stole this idea from my friend Robin’s instagram!
Tip: you don’t have to refill with the expensive stuff -- Dawn makes a clear dish soap too.

Hello! I am excited to share a book *I love*. It is called Love the Home You Have by the wonderful Melissa Michaels of the Inspired Room. I have read LOTS of home books and wondered how much more there is to say? But I looked forward to reading this every night and felt like I got LOTS of new ideas and helped calm my disappointment with my never ending home to do list.
Hello! Welcome to our spring front porch. :) The chalkboard is from this print using my handy overhead projector. The little chicks and bunnies are from past years.
You may remember the orange chair that I scored from Craigslist when we lived in Virginia. We removed the skirt to update the feel of it, but I had a few more things in my boys’ room stash to add here.
Our next project: little boys’ room! I wanted shelf in here for some book storage, some Lego creation displays and let’s be honest, for cute stuff we have hoarded gathered over the years.
If you love to put out small holiday décor touches but feel like you don't have space (or the money, or the time!) here are some fabulous ideas:
Build some shelves (or buy them!) like these bloggers and let your creative juices go to town in a small area -- that is much more do-able for me! AND it would take one storage bin of décor and a small amount of time to put together:
You may have remembered seeing these lamps around and me promising I was going to do something with them! I found the pair (always a plus to find 2!!) at Ross
Well this was a fun project because it cost me nothing and was painless and quick! I came across our old growth chart we had brought with us from our previous home (it was just a stick on type) and it made me sad that my kids had grown so much and I hadn’t documented it, so I decided that I was going to do something about it.
Hello there! Do you remember my sister Kerri? She is a true fashionista and can make anything look like a million bucks -- she has a great find to share with us today so I’ll let her take it away

Is it me or have you been noticing Hunter boots EVERYWHERE?! I have been dying to get some but non-breathable rubber + humidity = disaster; just saying.
Lucky me, Santa delivered some for Christmas now that we are out of Florida. My boots were a little too small so I went to Nordstrom Rack to return them which led to a fabulous discovery! Did you know that Nordstrom Rack not only carries some discounted Hunter boots, but a line that looks just like them?!
