We woke up this morning to more snow (bleaaahhhh). We had a few days of spring-like weather (well for us, 50 degrees) and on Monday night I think every family in our neighborhood was out in their yards or out walking with sunset an hour later. I am buying up flower seeds and bulbs everywhere and am ready for warmth but feel like the snow just punched us in the gut. To be fair, it technically is still winter but this one has felt especially long.
I am planning to start growing wheat grass for spring/Easter -- Easter is on April 21 this year, so April 8 is my date. Of course you could begin now and just keep cutting it (or let it be wild) I *love* the smell of cutting it inside, it will make you crave summer though.
I've seen some super cute containers in stores that would be perfect for wheat grass for spring and Easter celebrations:
* Oblong wood tray $7.19
* Woven Pot on Black Stand $15.59 (with 40% off coupon)
* this set of 2 wood trays $7.19!
* Metal Bucket Trio $20
* 24" Wood Box only $12
Have a wonderful day!

My fiddle leaf fig was struggling – and I’m pretty sure our cat using it a few times as a litterbox when we forgot to let her out had something to do with it. And, upon some FLF research – I shouldn’t have fertilized in the winter or probably watered as much. I was in Wal-mart and they had these beauties for $21 so of course it came home with me and I moved FLF #1 to the guest room (AKA: plant hospital) and we’ll work on nursing her back. As fortune would have it, H&M Home sent me a 40% off one item + free shipping coupon so I ordered the tall jute laundry basket and am hoping this will keep the cat out??
The fiddle leaf fig isn’t that tall – I just put it on top of a paint can and a book and need to put a tray underneath when I water. We’ll see how it goes! Any FLF care tips to share with me??
Another project I’m working on is the chairs I re-covered over 3 years ago – look how much they have faded!
I’m sanding down the chairs and hopefully using a new stain and fabric – stay tuned!
I hope your May is going well – I love the perfect 70’s weather and longer days here and everything is so green and smells divine (but also, allergies!) I really can’t believe my oldest is getting ready to graduate from high school – how can that even be possible?? Lots of fun preparations for that along with family graduations, concerts, assemblies, field days, field trips, track meets, baseball games for 3 boys, and yard work! But I love it.
Happy Wednesday~
I'm always keeping an eye out for great artificial stems that look realistic -- especially at spring time when I crave new life and greenery! Here are some that I’ve come across in stores or online that I thought were great :
* Green plum blossom stem from Michaels $3.19
* Faux spring oak spray at Pier One $6.95
* Olive Leaf Stem at Michael’s $2.39
* Mini Leaf Long Twig Stem at Michael’s $3.99
* Eucalyptus Green Branches $18.99 for two
* Pittosporum Leaf Stem at Magnolia $12
I ended up going with the eucalyptus green branches from Amazon and I love them! Super realistic and you can bend them really easily.
I’m so ready for spring!! We are starting to get a little more green outside but I’m sure we’re not finished with snow quite yet. Have you seen any great artificial stems anywhere?
Hello! I’ve been gathering some good finds over the past month that I wanted to share with you!
First off, it’s a perfect time to begin wheat grass for Easter! It’s super easy and makes a beautiful Easter centerpiece (and you can throw it in your smoothies afterward!) Here are the easy instructions
Next, to go along with your Easter dinner this really is the best carrot cake from Southern Living!! My sister Kelsey introduced us to it and it is so divine. There is also a sheet cake version if you’re not into the 3 layer cake thing.
Okay, we have to talk bunny plates. Pottery Barn came out with these in 2012-2013 and I was a bit obsessed with them and actually spent a lot my birthday money on bunny cupcake plates!! They became really hard to find though and were going for crazy amounts on Ebay. If you are still looking you can get a set of 12 for $600 (!!!!!!) BUT! I was in Burlington Coat Factory picking up new Sunday pants for my super fast growing 13 year old boy and guess what I saw?
Bunny cupcake plate knockoffs! So I think the original PB ones went for $14.50 or close to that.
Here are the knockoffs:
Left is PB, right is the knock off for $5.99. There is more detail in the Pottery barn one and a little rim of beads around the plate.
I love this one and actually like the knockoff on the right better with the little foot raised ($4.99)
And this one was $5.99 and I don’t remember seeing this design at Pottery barn, it’s super cute though with the baby bunny climbing on the mom’s back. I found them at Burlington Coat Factory – but they could be at other discount stores like it – maybe like Marshalls?? They are so cute to put nests on or candles or little pots of greenery.
And speaking of candles ^^^, if you are looking for a dupe of Capri Blue Volcano candle, Pomelo Citron from Bath & Body Works is close! Not exactly, but it’s a great spring/summer scent! It has “crisp Pomelo, Island Citron, Agave Nectar” while Volcano candle is tropical fruits, sugared oranges, lemons and limes, lightly exotic mountain greens – I would say I don’t smell the green part in the Pomelo Citron as much but it is still so, so good and I got a couple for $10 each this past weekend on their sale, so less than half the price of the Volcano candle. The first B&BW store I went to was sold out but another one had just gotten a shipment in so I snagged some!
Okay, next up is the fact that Hobby Lobby has some great pillow covers!! This one is the Kilim pillow cover was only $10 and some change with the coupon but it has great texture and detail.
The gray & cream woven one was also great:
So was the gray sweater knit pillow for around $6.50 with coupon!
And this black and cream kilim wool cover for $11.50 with the coupon
And last but not least I have to share this gem I found at the Dollar Tree!!! Back in 2015 I shared that a scraper/chopper I had gotten on Amazon was a favorite thing and it definitely still is – so I was THRILLED to see that the Dollar Tree has one now and it is every bit as good! It is the Cooking Concepts brand is of course, $1. I use these in the kitchen to scrape off counters or cut up brownies, another in the bathroom to scrape off toothpaste or dried up hair gel on the counters or floors, there was some frozen gum on our front porch that I used it on. It’s just a handy tool to have around and you can even order them online now!
Here the spring/Easter porch :) Easter is one month away and I don’t really do St. Pats, so spring always comes early.
I’ve got my calendar to begin my wheat grass on April Fool’s Day – are you planting any this year?
I am so ready for spring!! I am a four seasons girl, I love each one but I recognize that long winters make me appreciate warmth and sunshine even more. I’ve made it more spring inside than outside, but perhaps that will inspire the weather.
The dogwood branch is from a thrift store road trip in Virginia. Cutting boards are from TJ Maxx, the sea glass vase is from Ross, the white pitchers are from (L-R) Target, an heirloom that my Aunt Cyndi gave me, and a gravy boat I’ve had forever.
Most everything else is just collected throughout the years, if you have any questions, please just ask!
The watercolor is from Susan Windsor
Thanks for stopping by and happy spring decorating!
