Bored? Check out these headBOARDS and footBOARDS :)

I had to share some inspiration I've seen for old headboards and footboards:

Look what Kate from Centsational Girl did with a footboard she picked up at the thrift store (for half off nonetheless!):

She turned it into an outdoor message center!
Oh, but that's not all. She shows an alternate version for inside:

Look at what Karla from It's the little things that make a house a home did with a free headboard she got from the side of the road:

She turned it into an outdoor bench!
And finally, this one comes from the last page of the May 2009 Better Homes and Gardens. It's what is behind the headboard that caught my eye: Erin Diegel from Arizona upholstered her wall behind the bed:

Don't you just love this look? She explains how she did it~I even typed it up for you, straight off the BHG p. 240 :) Oh, and side note~I loved that little mirror above the bed, found out it's from Anthropologie.

"She and her mom started by cutting batting to fit over three plywood panels. (Use 3/8 inch-thick board) Next they wrapped the boards in a budget fabric, pulling it tight and stapling it to the back. Erin dressed up the seams with upholstery nailheads. Wherever she drilled in a screw to secure the panels to the wall, she cut the spike off a nail and glued the head over the screw. Erin helped her mom make an upholstered headboard with the same technique."

I hope you are as inspired as I was~keep your eyes peeled in your thrifting and yard-saling for these hidden gems!
Happy Thursday~

  5. I have that BHG page torn out of my magazine in the hopes that when (and if) we ever finish our basement, we can have those on the walls as to act as a sound buffer.

  10. Thanks so much for this post! I stumbled upon the bench made from a headboard a few weeks back but couldn't remember where. I recently picked up a headboard from a thrift store that I was planning to refinish for my son's room. My husband found a headboard (and matching footboard) that would be perfect for our daughter's room (with some TLC of course!)... so, after sanding away on my son's, I ended up running across a steal of a deal on a bunk bed set and got him that instead. That left me one partially finished headboard that needed a purpose. I remembered the bench but could NOT find the right blog. I wanted to show my hubby. Thanks!!

  25. Aren't they all just wonderful. Such creative thinking and great ideas. And of course paint!!!

Oh and I'm with you on the cheap sunglasses. I can't imagine paying much more than $5.00 for a pair. I've run over and sat on some more than once. $2.50 is even better.

  27. Okay, when I first opened this post I thought "BBQ Tonight" was actually written at the foot of someone's bed. My mind went immediately to when Michael, from The Office, came into work with a burnt foot due to making his breakfast in bed with a George Foreman grill. Hee-hee!
    All these ideas are lovely.

  29. Love the ideas. I have a bunk bed from when my Dad was a little boy and it broke recently. I don't want to get rid of it so I may have to use one of these ideas. Now on the fabric walls-every time I saw this technique on Trading Spaces-my thought was-I have so much to do already who is coming over to vac. my walls. : )
