Hello! I wanted to share a quick and easy DIY frame for a poster or print. I got the idea from Michelle at 4 Men 1 Lady years ago. Here is how we did it:
She picked this poster from Art.com -- it is called Green Valley IV by Ethan Harper. It was the 40" X 30" for $25 and we cut the white from around it.
Get a pine lattice strip (this one was from Lowe's in the trim section by the windows) for around $4 for an 8 ft piece.
Cut it to size and stain it if you want to -- I used Minwax classic gray mixed with weathered oak. Let dry overnight.
Take your stained lattice pieces, your print, and a hot glue gun. I tried the regular stapler and it wasn't strong enough, then the heavy duty stapler and the staples I had were too long so I ended up going with the hot glue gun.
Have your print/poster ready to go nearby and quickly run a strip of hot glue along the lattice strip
and attach the print. Do the same thing with the top.
To hang, we just used thumbtacks on the back and tied some jute string around each of them. Then use another thumbtack to hang. If you can't make holes in the walls, mounting putty along the strips would be a good alternative. (Poster print is found here)
We love this girl and will sorely miss her around here! We'll see how long she gets to stay on campus??
And her letterboard. I haven't met a person that knows the Sandlot as well as her :)
Thanks for stopping by -- good luck if you are moving a child onto campus!! My heart is with you ♥
Bathroom Refresh * How to remove wallpaper with fabric softener * Revere Pewter match formula
01 May 2019
Hello! Our main upstairs bathroom got a little refresh.
Do you remember the before? I loved the wallpaper...
You may spot the Israeli Ruscus in the dollar spot stem jars from my Instagram stories 2 months ago!! It's still green and beautiful, I'm sold on it. Just a simple refresh for the bathroom, I like the less busy feel since I feel like the pattern on our countertops have more going on there. A new bath mat and towels from TJ Maxx and we're set. Thanks for coming by~

BUT I really don't know what I was thinking putting it behind two sinks? The water marks were awful.
So, down it came. My favorite thing for removing wallpaper -- we removed SO much in our Texas house -- is hot water and fabric softener. Spray on, let sit and then take a corner and a putty knife and start scraping and lifting. Wallpaper scorers work well too if the wallpaper isn't coming off very easily.
We painted over parts that came off with the wallpaper -- that is why it's good to keep extra paint and the formula on hand! We used revere pewter throughout most of our house and love it. Here is the formula for the paint match we used:
and then added some simple black mirrors from Hobby Lobby. Target also had some but they were only 28" and the Hob Lob ones were bigger at 32" so we went with those.

Target’s Dollar Spot (I guess the new name is Bullseye’s Playground??) is killing it this year. They had the cutest wooden 3D stars for $1.
So, I picked up a bunch. (they had different finishes, I liked the light wood)
I grabbed a simple green wreath,
and then just hot glued them in and tucked some battery operated fairy lights in between. Costco and Sam’s Club have some amazing prices in-store on fairy lights this year so be looking for them!
It would be so cute to dip the edges in glitter too, but I just stayed simple. ♥
If your dollar spot is cleaned out, I loved these glitter stars at Target, these birch ones at Factory Direct Craft, or plain wood ones are cost effective as well and you could layer them easily. So fun to just tuck into a fresh wreath as well.
My favorite star wreath of all time is this one I had pinned on Pinterest, but I can’t find a source? Anyway, I love it.
Many stores have begun their Black Friday sales (!!) so I’ll post my CME + Deals today and keep updating it through Friday when I see crazy good deals. And I’ll definitely be back on Cyber Monday – it’s always a shopping party!
But I wanted to wish you each a very happy Thanksgiving!!
In today’s news: we recovered our chairs! Here is what they look like!
They started off like this – $5 each at a yard sale
Then, we recovered them to look like this:
And then they were getting faded and we were ready for a new wood finish.
To get the old finish off I hired my teenage daughter to use the electric sander to take the finish off – it took 2 hours! Sanding finish off is not my favorite, I was happy to hire that one out. Remember Landon’s diy headboard with light that we made this spring?? We just used the leftover stain from that – it is a combination of Minwax classic gray stain with a little provincial.
And for the fabric? We used curtains from Target! One light gray 95” panel covered both chairs!
I loved the color and texture of the fabric:
As I’m looking at the picture I’m seeing some spots where the fabric could have been tucked in better (and straightened!) and some corners that were missed in sanding but I still like them and happily keep them in the family room off of the kitchen where we can slide them over for big family dinners.
AND! I need to tell you about a crazy good light bulb deal I found at Lowes. I have been slowly replacing my chandelier lightbulbs with these ones from Walmart – the 40 watt ceiling fan bulbs that I love the shape of – kind of an Edison type style and they last forever (well, 10,000 hrs) and take much less energy. But they are $6.74 for a 2 pack so I just pick one up every month. WELL, last week at Lowes I saw this crazy good sale for the same Kichler bulbs but they were 99 cents each (reg price $3.98) and didn’t get good reviews. They also have the same style in a 60 watt equivalent and I got free parcel shipping.
But I thought: why not try and if they don’t work I can return them? I’m happy to report they all worked and so I ordered them for all of my indoor and outdoor light fixtures that they fit and are beautiful! It’s hard to get a good picture of them when they are on but here is one:
and this is what they look like in the day:
Just wanted to give you a heads up if you are in the market for some LED lightbulbs!
I’ll be back tomorrow with CME + Deals!
Here are the top posts of 2017 that are fun to look back on:
As 2017 comes to a close I want to thank each one of you for stopping by -- whether it’s for some decor ideas or a good deal, I truly appreciate you and wish you each a happy, healthy 2018!
Hello there! I’m trying to get back into a posting routine slowly but surely. Here are some little updates I’ve been working on around here:
This lamp got a blue/gray spray paint update using this method
It used to look like this, but that was a little bright for this room, so I spray painted it and I think it fits better.
And then I found this cute little table at a neighbor’s estate sale for $5.
I took off the veneer that was peeling on top -- which took WAY longer than I thought it would. If you are ever having a hard time removing layers of veneer – a wet towel with a hot iron pressed down hard on top of it does the trick! Anyway, the lamp on top is another lamp makeover found here and the headboard is found in this post (but I think the price is back up from $99 to $150)
More on the guest room to come!
AND we got a new rug for the upstairs family room. I found it at Lowe’s on sale this summer plus I had a coupon, so far we love it!
Just some fun updates I thought I’d share, have you found anything great lately?
