Procrastinator's Party: before

09 October 2009

I joined Melissa @ The Inspired Room for her last Project Procrastination and loved it. Okay, well I didn't love it during, because in true procrastinator fashion I was sweating bullets to finish at the end, but when it was finished I loved having my projects done and having a deadline.

So this time, I really really need to tackle my kitchen drawers. The ones at the family desk in the kitchen are insane and need help. They still have the original 1979 drawer liner and are chaos because everyone used them.
Empty tape rolls, ink cartridge covers, baby fingernail clippers I've been looking for:

I consider myself fairly organized, but I have let these drawers run amuck:

You need a paperclip? Uhhh...sure there's one somewhere in these drawers

We don't have much drawer space, so I have stuffed all of my dishcloths, towels, bibs, etc. in one drawer and it's not working:
So, I am going to put new liner in, throw out, sort, organize, make some easy drawer dividers I've been wanting to try, and hopefully restore some order behind the scenes.

If you have a project you've been dying to finish but keep putting it off, go link up at Melissa's and give yourself 2 weeks~it will feel so good!

Have a great weekend~

  1. I was laughing at this because that is exactly what my drawers look like. Especially my towel/bib drawer. Glad I'm not the only one.:) Love your blog!

  4. You need one good junk drawer in a kitchen, right? I have one and did put an organizer divider in, but it needs to be gone through. I'm sure there are dead batteries, 100 rubberbands and other stuff that really can be taken out.

  5. Looks very familiar! Taking on your drawers is a great project. (That sounds funny.) It always feels good to have them organized even if it doesn't last very long.

  9. Well, my drawers look WAY worse than that! When you open them, you have to stick your hand in and push stuff down to get the drawer to open. Then if you can not find it IN the drawer, look in the cabinet below in case it got pushed out the back! Have a great day. I cannot wait to see what you come up with for drawers. I obviously need help!!

  14. WOW! You really hit at the hearts of many of us! If, and I say IF I get my project done early, you have given me the encouragement to try and do at least ONE drawer that suffers the same malady! I'll let you know how i do, & THANKS!

  15. Great project for the Procrastinators Party, and I totally need to do that at my house! Instead I'm procrastinating cleaning my junk drawers by doing other projects for the Procrastinators' Party. :) And I'm definitely concerned that I'm going to wait until the last minute to get it done.

  16. LOL, I think you dated that contact paper just about right...my mom used that exact stuff when I was a kid! You will feel great when you get your drawers done. I just did my junk drawer a couple months ago and it was so liberating! I found a big drawer organizer at a thrift shop for about a buck, and that really helped.

  17. If you think your drawers are bad, I'd hate for you to see mine. I couldn't possibly get another item in mine.

  18. Come to think of it, i have 6 junk drawers in my kitchen and they all look worse than yours. I'm going to get to work on that right away. I could probably reduce it all down to 2 or 3.

  21. I allow myself 1 junk draw in my house. I have a little OCD so everything is always in place. People hate me for it but I can't help it. I am moving to a house that has a smaller kitchen and NO drawerstacks. I am going to have to come up with some creative ideas for the drawers. I wish I could join in but not with us moving in 3 weeks:( Maybe next time.

  22. OK, so now I think I better tackle a few drawers too.

I hated the procrastinator party until I FINISHED my dresser...YAY! Yes, I really did finish already. Well, I almost finished. Just need to figure out the knobs. I was grumbling the whole way through until the I was done. LOL. Such a great attitude I had.

Yay for me! Yay for you!!

I have to send you a huge THANK YOU for alerting us to so many great deals. I have gotten so many things so cheap because of your tips. My most recent one is the Nikon D40. I got it yesterday for $244 at Target!!!!!! I bought the floor model which was still marked clearanced for $419 but rang up I think for $346 and I got 30% off of that. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I have wanted one for years and years. It is an early Christmas and bday present for me. I love your blog!

  26. Hi Melissa! I learned some really easy drawer organizer ideas at a home organization class I went to a couple of months ago. There is also a solution for towels. It has helped me a ton in my small kitchen!! I posted them on my blog if you want to check it out. Hope you are all well. Thanks for sharing all of your great ideas.
