I spray painted it white, then taped it off and spray painted the edges black
There are a bunch of different ideas to make signs on Pinterest that I had pinned and I tried a few, but they didn’t work that great for me. So, here’s what I did:
Print large letters out onto white cardstock. Print in draft, it doesn’t matter how dark they are.
(I used Copperplate Gothic Bold, size 450 for this sign) Then, cut them out.
Trace them with a sharpie onto the sign,
and then fill in the letters with black craft paint. I went around with a black sharpie and filled in the edges, because my hand is more steady with a marker than a small paintbrush.
Then, you take some fine sandpaper, and rough it up.
And then you have a kitchen sign to hang above your painted door!
Total cost for me: nothing…I had everything on hand! Love it when that happens.
Maybe that’s my last name, maybe it isn’t. Maybe I just like the name Smith…
Do you ever add things that you’ve already finished to your to-do list just so you can have the satisfaction of crossing it off?
We’re getting there!
P.S. I posted deals here today!
this post so nice and good.
ReplyDeleteSo if your last name isn't Smith, why'd you choose Smith & Co? Just curious. Hope you can answer this without giving away your last name...:)
ReplyDeleteI totally will do that with the to-do list! I'm IN LOVE with this sign!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Melissa! It fits perfectly over your door, too! I may have to relook at some of those signs on clearance and see if there is one worth remaking.

Love it!!! I found a few good (eh, tacky really) signs for super cheap at Ross. I am going to follow your tutorial. However, I am second guessing using our last name AGAIN. I swear, it's everywhere in the house already! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! Such a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI don't have one either, Kari! I 've been offered some, but honestly, I don't like having to force myself to come up with projects *I* normally wouldn't do to promote them. I don't work well that way and I'm not crafty enough! I'd rather have someone give me something old and ugly and say, "let's see what you can do with this..." :)
ReplyDeleteabsolutely! i do that all the time! and i'm IN LOVE with this sign! good job, mrs. smith....i mean...... lol
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I love this. (I'm just being honest) might have to rip off this idea! (I'll of course give you all the credit!)
ReplyDeleteGirl, that is wonderful! I love that you re-made a sign that was already a sign. That gets my creative juices flowing. I have a sign that's already a sign, but I don't particularly love it. . . hmmm. . . I can just imagine something like "Parham & Sons" on it. What do you think? Might be a neat Christmas gift for Jack!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see your total kitchen reveal. You are going to rock the blogosphere when you show everything, you know that?!
I love the cabinet you have? Where do you find pieces like that?
ReplyDeleteMelissa I have added things to my to do list just so I could have the pleasure of crossing them off also. :) I love the new sign. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteyour sign turnrd out SO cute! it's meant to be in that spot for sure. I add done stuff to my to-do list regularly too :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen some that say GROCERY that I really like for the kitchen...
ReplyDeleteWhen something unexpected pops up, I still want the satisfaction of checking it off the list. I totally add stuff too. Mom's need all the positive they can get.
ReplyDeleteI like this very much. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSo glad someone else does this! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the sign! I have found that using sharpies or paint pens makes get the edges of the letters clean so much easier!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute and I love how creative you are!! I myself, do not possess a Silhouetter or Cricut machine so a tut like this is perfect for me!!
