painted kitchen door

03 November 2011

First of all, I need to say thank you for your lovely, heartfelt (and some funny!) comments on yesterday’s post. I’ve read and appreciated every one and you have me thinking in a whole new way and I’m more excited than ever for this holiday season.
Now, we need to get down to business with the kitchen and the list I made. We’re tackling the door first!
Why do they make the grids yellow on these doors? I was looking at it and thinking of how I could just pop the grid off and spray paint it, but then I remembered Sarah’s debacle (you have to read it..she is so funny!)

and decided to go for the taping it off and painting it with a regular old brush. A tip for the taping off~you need two sizes for the tops and bottoms of the rectangles, so just leave them on your counter so you know what size to cut them all to.

I brought up a $5 oops paint from my stash that looked about the color I was going for…

And I ended up loving the dark slate blue. (sorry, there is no paint color name on it….)

You are hilarious. :) It was NOT fun, nor under 1 hour...

  2. The door color looks really good against the wall color

That turned out to be a great color Melissa. I think it goes great with your couch! It looks so pretty up against the crisp white trim.

Eww ours is yellow too. I hate it. Just painted our front door from a blue ugly color to a nice olive green. Looks great!

So pretty, Melissa!  You have impeccable taste!  And really good luck with oops paint.  I only ever see really gross's obvious why someone changed their mind!

  6. Love the color!!  Makes such a difference.

  7. Love the color, Melissa! I think just a tad darker is the color of the guest room walls here in the new place.  I have no idea what color it is either as the previous owner didn't leave any paint behind.

That blue is gorgeous! Like Holly (down a few comments), I only find gross colors in the Oops section. And I like the blue door with the blue couch!

  9. I LOVE it Melissa!  Looks perfect with your room and your sofa.  You are amazing...only YOUR oops paint color would turn out that good!!! :)

  10. I love the new color!  It's definitely a "yup" paint!

  11. I Love it, I never would have thought to do that!  Looks great!

  12. It looks so lovely :) I look forward to the next post.

  16. what a beautiful door, melissa!  you've been busy, it seems.  the blue is absolutely perfect and jives so well with the rest of your home.

  17. That slate blue has the perfect POP!  I read your post yesterday as a passenger in the car with my husband on the way from a funeral and thought it about it alllllll day.  I can't wait to go read the comments now.

  18. I love it!  We just bought some oops paint too, that worked out great!  And I am trying to finish my house to do list before I get the Christmas stuff up!  Good luck with your list!

That tape job alone would drive me to drink, you did a great job, and the tip on putting the two sizes on the counter is great!

  20. That looks great!

  21. I love the color of the door! It looks great - as always!

Thank you for taking the time to leave me a note!
