1. If you love something, put it in your cart. Then you don’t have to worry about it selling out.
2. Joss & Main uses stock photos, so here is a trick
Let’s look at the Carnaby bed they have on their site right now:
It’s $430.95 for a queen size. Let’s see if that is a good deal.
3. Right click on the stock picture, and then click on “search Google for this image.”
Aha, it comes up on Amazon, Target, and Lowes.
4. This also tells us the name of the manufacturer if we want to keep searching -- it’s the Skyline Furniture Surrey bed. Let’s check the prices.$462 on Amazon, $599 at Target, and $624 at Lowes for the queen.
5. If I loved it, I would figure in shipping and see what my best deal was. For most things, Joss & Main has been least expensive. But I love to know I’m getting the best deal, so I still like to check. :)
Lighting can be tricky. I learned this picking out fixtures for our new home.
Let’s look at the Burke chandelier Joss & Main has sold out of -- it was $310
I search the image on Google using the above method and find out it is made by Kenroy lighting and is is called the Pannier 9 light chandelier in oil-rubbed bronze. Everywhere on google, it is $432 plus shipping, EXCEPT after a little more digging I found a similar six light on Amazon for $177 with free shipping. It pays to search a little to either find a better deal or to know the one on J&M is a great deal.
A little tip for your Monday. :) Also, a friendly reminder that our Under $10 Under 1 Hour linky party will be up around noon, Mountain time on Thursday:
See you tomorrow!

AWESOME! You are the queen of these tips, love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I know this will come in handy when we begin our build.
ReplyDeleteI tried right clicking on a stock picture and I didn't get the same menu you showed above??? what am I doing wrong. Does this tactic only work on items that are still available? The item in question was sold out at joss & main. Thanks for any help.
ReplyDeleteLinda - what browser are you using? I'm wondering if it only works in google chrome.
ReplyDeleteHave you ordered from Joss and Main? I have read some negative reviews on their customer service and long delivery times. I ordered a bed and am waiting for it. Their site doesn't give much info on estimated shipping times when you order. My order is still "pending".
ReplyDeleteHi Cami-- I have ordered twice from them and have had no complaints, they were here in a week. I'm sorry you're having trouble. I have no relationship with them -- wish I could point you in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteCool trick! I once loved Joss and Main but after comparing prices on multiple items about a year ago, I realized that most items (or at least the ones I was shopping for) were significantly less on other sites.
ReplyDeleteI have Google Chrome and do not have the 'search Google' option when I right click the picture. ?? Anyone know how to fix that?
ReplyDeleteIn a google forum, they said: "Found out it is a glitch with an account sync (messed up chrome settings or something like that). Go to https://www.google.com/settings/dashboard and delete all data associated with chrome, then re-install the browser. It completely solves the problem, "Search Google for this image" reappears in the context menu (if you need to save bookmarks, just use HTML export)."
ReplyDeleteAMAZING tip! I had no idea you could do that! (Google search an imagine) You are a blogging shopping rock star!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have spent so much time trying to price out Joss and Main items in the past. This is so helpful!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! I deleted my joss and main app awhile ago after realizing that they are kind of expensive, and have no return policy?! That is just crazy to me.
ReplyDeletejust fyi, this works on One Kings Lane too. I first searched by the name and it found models that looked the same but with different names. Then, I remembered your post and came back to reread your tip. Both worked like a charm, thank you for sharing!
