Favorite Things 2020: My Mom!!

12 November 2020

Shooz is in the house!! Well, the virtual 320 Sycamore house. I wish she was right here next to me! My mom's name is Susan but I call her Shooz (like if you said Shoozhan and then shortened it?? It's weird.) She doesn't like to draw any attention to herself and so this is huge for her to join us! She is really the best and I wish you could all meet her in person. I wrote more about her for Mother's Day back in 2014 . So many of my favorites have come from her so I'm really excited for her to share today.

I'm pretty sure my love of quotes also come from her! Her are some of her favorites:

"What Suzy says of Sally says much more of Suzy than Sally."

"Fatigue makes cowards of us all." - Vince Lombardi

"Circumstances may color my life, but I choose the color."  - Eleanor Roosevelt

"Vulgarity is no substitute for wit." -Violet Crowley in Downton Abbey

She sent me over her handwritten favorite things (♥♥♥) so here we go in her words!

* E-Cloths Polishing Cloths  I love these for polishing my stainless steel appliances in my kitchen. They also work great on glass because they don't leave streaks (like some microfiber cloths) and all you use is a little water.

* Mrs. Meyers Orange Clove Spray Cleaner  I love the orange clove for this time of year. I love using them in my kitchen and bathroom and it almost makes cleaning fun -- almost!

* Swedish Dishcloths: my daughter's MIL (Jill!) told her about these a few years ago and when I tried them I was hooked! They are thin but absorbent, easily wrung out with one hand, don't have a tendency to smell, and don't streak (as you may have noticed I like streakless!) You can just throw them in the dishwasher to clean them -- what could be easier?

* Clorox Automatic Toilet Bowl Cleaner Tablets with Bleach Just drop one in your toilet and with every flush you get a clean, refreshing smell. I find I don't have to clean my toilet as often.

* Bath & Body Works White Barn Pumpkin Apple Candle this is one of my favorite fall scents -- it makes my house smell soooo good.

* IKEA Omsorg long-handled shoehorn I keep one of these in my closet and mudroom. They make putting on certain shoes and boots (especially those with collapsible backs) so much quicker and easier and saves on the life of your footwear! Best 99 cent purchase ever!

* Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer I've always had a problem with eyeshadow creasing and have tried lots of different primers but none really did the trick until I tried this. I've never had a problem since, and of course I use the "anti-aging" formula. :)

* Equate Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover  Another eye tip: I have found that this brand works much better than the more expensive department store brands at a quarter of the price.

* Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray I have super fine, shorter hair and this was recommended by a stylist at Ulta. I love it because it isn't heavy, doesn't weigh my hair down, and gives it some much needed extra body!

* Stretchable Sippy Cup Lids With lots of grandkids sitting at my kitchen counter and table these lids fit over any sized cup. I can't tell you how many spills have been prevented and they come in fun colors!

* a favorite recipe: Crock Pot Cream Cheese Chicken Chile this is a favorite that my youngest daughter served us when we were visiting her in California. It is one of those recipes that you can literally "throw together" in a few minutes. Also, whenever I get a recipe from someone, I always write (ore have them write) who it's from, the date, and occasion -- it means so much more to me when I use the recipe and brings back lots of good memories.

*  A favorite book: We Had Everything But Money I think this is almost a "must-read" for children. My mom and dad had it at their house and both grew up during the Depression so they could really relate to this book. I read it and found these true experiences from people who had lived during the depression years fascinating. Even though they had no money they found that it did not affect their happiness -- in fact, many say those years were some of the best of their lives.

My mom is the best!! I hope you've loved her favorites. Click here to see all of the other 2020 Favorite Things!
