Soooo, some may call this hoarding, but I prefer the term gathering.
Anyone with money to burn can walk into a showroom and say, “I want this entire room. Have it delivered at 9 a.m. on Thursday. And send in the painters and interior designers as well. I’ll be at the dog spa with Fifi if you need me…”
The rest of us have to be a little more creative and patient as we
gather.
You don’t know what you’re doing?
I’ll let you in on a little secret: neither do I!
I’ve never been to design school. I have no credentials, except that I love seeing potential in spaces and all things “home.” When people ask what I “do,” I always say mom and if my husband is there he may chime in that I have a blog. And then the questions come:
“Oh, what kind of blog?”
It’s a home decor, kind of design on a dime type blog with some other randomness.
“Oh, is that what your degree is in?”
No, my degree is in elementary ed.
Oh….that’s interesting.
I usually go on to say it began in Texas when we had a really ugly house, blah, blah, blah, but it really makes no sense.
I guess my point here is:
fake it until you make it aka copy, copy, copy!
Putting a whole space together can seem very daunting: where on earth do you begin? The first step for me is to
find inspiration.
If you have some vision in mind of what you want your space to end up like, it gives you somewhere to begin.
This is my inspiration notebook I gather treasures from paper sources like magazines or catalogs. It is like a treasure box to me and when I find myself in a funk or not feeling very inspired, chances are a good 15 minutes with this can snap me right back out.
