    February Good Things to Share

    27 February 2019

Hello! As you can see I'm refreshing the look of the blog, just in time for spring. I also wanted to share a few good thing before February is over. Are you ready for March??

First of all, Walmart is pulling out some awesome planters in their spring garden department!

The first is this marble looking 8" planter (around $9)and then I put in the Better Homes & Garden wood plant stand. (around $9) You'll have to see if they are available online or in-store only in your area. The plant is a lighter green snake plant I got from a local nursery here. They are so great because they don't require much light or water and are pretty hard to kill. All of my plants made it through winter and I'll see which ones pull through spring/summer and I'll do a post on them.

I also loved these concrete planters they had for $5.96 -- I couldn't even find them online so I think they are in-store only. The plant is from IKEA, I can't remember the name!

I also thought these Time and Tru tops were so cute -- lots of patterns and colors. ♥

My sister, Kristin shared this Instant Pot Mac & Cheese from the Salty Marshmallow and it is SO GOOD. My whole family loved it -- don't let the hot sauce scare you! I used the little shell pasta and I didn't even have to add milk and it is ready to eat in 10 minutes!! Definitely adding to the meal rotation here.

Have you heard of the Smartly Cleaner craze?? Apparently, this Smartly All-Purpose Citrus Grove Cleaner is supposed to smell like the ever popular Volcano candle and is only $1.59.  I have yet to get my hands on it since Utah stores and Target online can't keep it in stock so keep your eyes open in your area!

Any good movies you've seen lately? Green Book is on our list to watch soon, we loved The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society (I believe it's still only on Netflix but the book is on my list to read!) and we also really liked watching Christopher Robin.

I love good recommendations from friends, I hope these help you and I would love to hear any you  have! Have a wonderful day~

How to make a diy bench ottoman out of a rug and hairpin legs

    20 February 2019

Hello there! Our ottoman / bench in the family room was getting pretty dingy -- not sure what I was thinking with the cream and feet going on it but it was time for a change.

I loved the storage in it but the blankets now go on the blanket ladder or in a basket by the piano.

I wanted something with texture and that hid dirt easily and I figured what would be better than a rug, right? But I needed one that wasn't too thick so I ordered this Safavieh Montauk flatweave cotton rug that folded over the edges easily.

Then some 16" hairpin legs from Amazon -- they come with the screws.

The piece of plywood (it is actually attic decking) was from Home Depot and I had them cut it in store for me to 17" X 48"

We did some bed/room switching around here so I had an extra twin foam pad. I remembered seeing that electric bread knives are perfect for cutting foam and I saw one at Goodwill years ago and had kept it. It truly sliced through like butter, so keep that trick in mind if you are doing any upholstery projects!

Center the rug over the foam/board, And then just turn it over and staple with a heavy duty staple gun. I would actually attach the legs first (I didn't!) and it was a pain cutting out the fabric around them. I think it would have been easier to just pull the fabric around the legs and staple. Note: to make it even more polished without strings hanging down, you can use fray check on the edges

It's a good bench/ottoman for in front of a sofa, end of a bed, or entryway for about $60. You could also use a cool piece of reclaimed wood with the hairpin legs -- oh, the possibilities!

Dreary winter days call for some fun indoor projects. Good luck with yours -- let me know if you have any questions or find any great rugs that would work well!
