2010 favorite things party!

{click here to see my favorite things from last year’s party. I wish the links were still up from last year’s party!}

There are a few more things I wanted to add this year:

We Had Everything But Money

I can’t tell you how much I love this book. My mom showed it to me when she was visiting last spring. It has the neatest experiences of people living in the Great Depression. I love reading of how they helped one another, how they “made do” with everything. It brings me back to a simpler time, and is a beautiful reminder that happiness doesn’t come from things …just remember that as we’re sharing “things today :)

(it looks like Amazon is out of it right now, but check Ebay or Half.com!)

Percy Faith Christmas Albums

His music brings me back to my childhood. My grandma would play “Joy to the World” as we came down the stairs on Christmas morning. A reviewer on Amazon said it best:

“Tracks from this album were played everywhere when I was a kid: at parties, in stores, in commercials. It was THE sound of Christmas for me, but I had no idea what the album was.”

It’s timeless~you can listen to samples on each album…see if it takes you back :)

Music of Christmas

Christmas Is ...

If you are lucky enough to have Music of Christmas 2, guard it with your life! Almost impossible to find anywhere under $100)

Vintage Tupperware Sugar Shaker

november 2010 022 1 I must be feeling nostalgic this week, because this brings me back to my childhood as well. My mom had one of these in harvest gold and I have wonderful memories of smothering my Cheerios with sugar. :) There is an end for a little sugar and and end for lots of sugar, and they both snap close. I was thrilled to find this at a yard sale a while back. I’m pretty sure you can find them in an array of colors on Ebay…

Rubbermaid Rough Neck Storage Bins

november 2010 028 1

These are the best. I’ve had some now for over 15 years and they are still going strong. They stack, they’ve held up through moving, all temperatures, and they don’t break or crack. They have a lifetime warranty! I have at least 20 in closets, up in the attic, the garage, etc

november 2010 029 1

The other ones may be cheaper, but this is what will happen:  november 2010 024 1 Go for the roughnecks. They usually have the best sales on them at H.Depot or Lowes in January.

Kind of a random list, but there you go.

It’s your turn!! Link up below. Thank you for following the rules:

1. If you’re going to enter, please visit at least 5 other entries and comment. This makes the party fun! Would you attend a party and not speak to anyone else? Of course not. Go visit someone you’ve never met! I’ll make it around to everyone…eventually! :)

2. Please link to your specific post, not just your blog in general. After you have published your post on your blog, click on your title of your post and that will give you the link you want to share.

3. Here is the button (I know it’s big, you’ll probably have to copy, paste, and resize it in your post) and I would be very grateful if you link back to the party in your post.

favorite things button

4. Please don’t link to Etsy shops or other stores/companies. You are welcome to include a favorite thing from an Etsy shop, but please put it in a blog post.

Oh yes, I did say there would be a prize package, didn’t I??

I will randomly select (from all those who link up) a winner of a favorite things package from our fabulous guest bloggers this week:

Can’t wait to see your favorite things! Linky will be up until Monday morning.

I'm really looking forward to this party, Melissa! I loved the party last year--and there was lots of good visiting among all the bloggers who participated. Thank you for asking people to visit at least five other bloggers--I think that's awesome!

I remember Percy Faith Christmas music! And thanks for the tip about Roughneck storage boxes. I need to buy a bunch of storage boxes, so I'll keep this in mind!

Melissa, the book about the Depression sounds amazing!! My Nannie will be 100 in May, and she has some great stories too. I think it's important to listen to our older generations and learn from them. :)

Thank you so much for hosting! When I get home from preschool drop-off today, I'm going to have a blast perusing the links. :)

Yea for Percy Faith Christmas!! The cd "Christmas is..." is my favorite. The title song was always playing on Christmas Eve as we drove home from the family Christmas party. Nostaligic memories!! I also love Ray Coniff Christmas!! Amazon has such great prices on them also! I'm giving 3 of the old-time cd's to my dad for his birthday this weekend. It's just fun to listen to the music that we listened to as kids, cause to be honest, Yoko Ono and Bruce Springsteen don't say Christmas to me ;)!! Your Favorite things week has been so fun!! I'm thankful for your great blog! It brings a smile to my face everyday!! Have a great weekend!

My parents had those albums! Oh that brings back such memories of growing up. Every christmas they would be played in our house non-stop. Thanks Mom and Dad for instilling great values and such happy moments in our lives.

Very fun party Melissa! I enjoyed looking around at the entries so far. I may post and link up later tonight. Hmmmm....What are my favorite things? :)

Ok so I had to giggle when I saw your old sugar dispenser. Growing up we had a pale yellow one that we used for our cereal. When I was visiting my parents this summer I asked my mom if she still had it. She did and wasn't using it. So I brought it home and now my 5 kiddos use it for their cereal. It is so convenient.

Thanks for being such a fun part of my day, even though I don't even know you personally. I love your great ideas and positive outlook. It always makes me want to make my home a little cuter and be a better mom to my six amazing kids.
