Solo flight...

16 January 2009

I miss my mom.
I actually have to make my own bed, empty the dishwasher, get the boys ready for the day, and make dinner tonight all on my own??
She is the biggest help when she comes and of course the hardest part is the first few days after she leaves. We miss you, Grandma...

Yesterday I was wondering how I was going to do the Old Navy sale with a new baby and 2 active little boys. My sister reminded me of a lovely thing called price adjustment at Old Navy. They will price adjust your receipt if the prices go lower within 2 weeks of your purchase. So, I ran over there last night after my husband got home and the kids were in bed and had some good luck! My store didn't have tons, but I found a lot of things I was looking for, except for a winter coat for my oldest daughter for next year. How are all of you making out at your stores? I'm going to try to head back over there tomorrow to get my price adjustment and look around a bit more. The $10 off $50 coupons worked great though~I did 2 separate transactions, so I'll end up getting 2 big bags full for around $50. I love this sale...
oh, and you may want to check your Targets for their clothing clearance racks and toy clearance aisles. Lots of people reporting great deals!

  1. Did you cry when you said goodbye to your Mom? I cried all 4 times... Your survival instincts will kick in, as you know, and somehow you'll get those chores done! (Or not, in my case;)
    Love you!
I still didn't get to Old Navy yet...I'm out of money for the week:( Maybe Grandma Julie will take us tomorrow?

  2. Hope you are surviving! It's hard when all the family leaves and you have to deal with reality again.
As for the ON sale I did good! :) The ON by our house doesn't get near the traffic the ones in Boise did for this sale so the clearance rocked! I got pants for my boys for next year for $2.74 each! LOVE that sort of bargain. I did however get a sweater for myself that was $20. But in my defense it was a cashmere cardigan that was regular $80! So my total was just over $100 including the coupon. I didn't even think about doubling up the coupons. But then again I was thinking there wouldn't be much so I wasn't planning on spending more than $50! Oh well. the original prices totaled $600. So $500 off is a pretty sweet deal! :)

  3. Hey Melissa, I need more direction on printing/framing this family mission statement. Do you mean I should print it off the computer so it's 8 /12 x 11" and frame that?

  4. I just wanted to leave you a comment to let you know how much I LOVE your blog. I am a huge bargain shopper and I look so forward to your tips daily. I am amazed that you have time to blog at all with 5 little ones. I only have 2, but they sure keep me busy.

On another note, I know exactly how you feel about missing your Mom! I live several hours away from my parents and when both boys were born my mom came and stayed 2 weeks to help out. I cried like a baby for days after she left. I hope you find your rhythm quick. I'm sure you will!

  5. Try Old Navy's website. They are having a sale - 50% off clearance with the code EXTRA50. Maybe you can find a coat there.

  6. Thanks for all the helps with the old navy sale. I've been waiting for it all year- but so glad to also have the $10 off coupon! Here in Virginia, I got baby gifts and coats and lots of little girl stuff. Not much luck with the 5T/6T for boys. Oh and I got tons of baby shoes at Target this week for $2.50. :)
By the way, your house is soooo cute. Oh, and I love that you live in Texas. I love Texas.
I think I seem like a stalker now!

  7. Boy I am glad I married into the family. Rod and I rocked it today at Old Navy. We were there an hour after they opened so we had all the choosings! Rod got a pair of pants for $3!!!! I meant to go for Lucy, but ended up with 4 shirts and 2 pairs of shoes for myself. $3 shoes! Can't beat that! Thanks for the heads up and the coupon.

  8. Oh totally know the feeling of trying to shop with 3 little ones...it is almost impossible and frustrating. That was me last year...thank goodness I only had 1 child this year. I'm glad someone else's kitchen and bedroom look like mine right now! Only you have an excuse of new baby...what's my excuse! LOL

I was so overwhelmed at our ON! We had tons of stuff to choose from...girls jeans $6.50 and I stalked up on 12 pairs for 3 girls all for next school year! My little boy made out too with shirts for $2 and a new Pea Coat $10 for next year! I didn't hardly look in the Women's because it was just a mess and I was tired of shopping at that point! My buggy was full and even though I had some great bargains I know I was over budget! I did manage a new puffy vest and swing coat that were on the front T-stands and together those were $23! I used several coupons and split up my order! I figure I averaged less than $5 an item. Thanks for the tip on the coupons!

  9. Oh YAY! I never even thought about the price adjustment. I went to ON on Mon and their clearance wasn't on sale yet. I did buy several things that I thought were good deals but would have been better at 50% off!!! Now I can go at my leisure this week and get the price adjusted.

We made doughnut holes this morning thanks to you posting about making doughnuts in Oct. My 3 year old loved helping do the powdered sugar and cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Good luck on your own! I am sure it is overwhelming.

  10. Please please PLEASE announce the other 50% off sale in the summer! I tried to ask my store about it, and they wouldn't/couldn't tell me exactly when it was. I spent $60 yesterday and didn't pay more than $5 for anything! It was great!

  11. Congratulations Melissa!! I'm a little behind in the blogging world, but just saw that the baby was here and hopefully you're surviving okay, especially now without the extra help! And BTW I LOVE his name! (I'm a little biased) Good luck with everything! He is absolutely adorable! Little boys are so much fun!!

  12. I had a great time at Old Navy - struck out for my son, though. Even with you feeling like your home is a tornado - it is still beautiful!

  13. I totally relate to what you are going through right now. Charlie is 8 weeks now... and the daily tasks seem so much harder with a newborn.

  14. We would love to see new pictures of little Landon on the family blog when you get a chance. Hope you are all doing well! We will see you in a couple of weeks!

  15. Melissa, I have a really random question. I could see your picture of the Logan Temple in the background of your bedroom and love it. Just wondered where you got it or who the artist is? Hope you're adjusting okay and loving that little Landon!

  17. Hey there Melissa,
I am also a Melissa in Texas and LDS too. I was wondering if you happen to know what color is the paint in your kitchen. I like it a lot! Thanks so much.
