laundry room after!

02 August 2009

Can we just take a minute and remember the nastiness before?
Dark cabinets, dark doors, to-do projects piled everywhere, a floor that needed to be cleaned:

Are you ready to see inside?

Well, come on in, then!

Remember this steal of a basket from the Hob Lob clearance? I use it for odd socks. And of course, you remember the lamp from a yardsale with some fabric.
The green balls were from a yard sale and I was going to use them for Christmas, but why not in the laundry room? The tin holding them is the Southern Living one I found at a yard sale as well...
I used the beadboard wallpaper on my cabinets! Love, love them. My husband kept going back in and saying, wow, they look so good! I'll do another post on how I did them, but Rhoda was my inspiration for these, and the paint color on the walls, which is Behr Grasscloth. Thank you, Rhoda! The new knobs are from Hob Lob, 50% off. ($3 each)
I used an old fashioned candy container from a yard sale ($2) and filled it with color safe bleach powder I use to soak stained clothes in. Since the shelves are on wheels, I hot glued it to the top to stay put.
I painted the door black and used the reverse side of the comforter for a new-sew window treatment. Just hung it up with a few upholstery tacks ala Nester style, and that was it:
And you've seen the little work area across from the washer/dryer:

Thanks for coming in and thank you for choosing the green for me!
I really love it, and I figure if you can't have fun in the laundry room with paint, where in the world can you?? :)

P.S. If you have any questions, ask in the comments and I'll try to answer them in a follow up post~

  31. This looks wonderful! Congratulations on getting this makeover done. I just made over my laundry room, too--isn't it amazing what a difference it makes? I guess it's because this room gets used so very much. I hadn't realized what a drag it was for my laundry room to be such a cave, but now that it's bright and cheerful, I'm so glad I've done it! Looks like you are, too.

By the way, I LOVE the green. Green is absolutely my favorite color. I didn't paint my laundry room green because my kitchen is green, but seeing yours makes me remember just how much I do love green. Your room just looks terrific.

    Blessings!

  44. I love your laundry room. I was wondering if you thought after messing with the beadboard wallpaper it would work in a kitchen.on the cabinets? Would it be able to hold up to that much use, or better to stick to areas without so much use?
I love the look of it.

  55. Melissa, it's awesome!!! :) Did you buy the "Laundry" sign on the door or did you make that one? The piece in between the washer and dryer--is it a shelf unit or open storage? I LOVE the little skirt you made for it. :)

I also love that you have the standard front load dryer/top load washer like I do. All I see in magazines is the front load stuff, which is great...if that's what you have. I love how you made your room beautiful!! Wish I had room for a cute cabinet, but T wanted a small freezer. :)

    Great job!!

  60. I remember seeing the beadboard wallpaper on another blog...can somone refresh my memory-is this like a flat photo of beadboard or is it actually textured to look like beadboard?

IN any case, it looks fan-tastic!!!!! What a wonderful transformation. I love the color scheme! Well done!

  64. YAY, Melissa! I've been waiting to see your new space & it turned out fantastic! Good for you, you really made it your own & I just love it all. I love all the little details you did in here. What a change!

I didn't know you were planning to do the beadboard wallpaper too on the doors, that looks great. I bet a lot of others will be following suit on that. I think we MUST have a beadboard wallpaper party soon. I just got an email from someone else who used it.

Wouldn't it be fun to share what all we've done across blogland. The stuff has endless possibilities. I've got more planned too.

And my sister copied my green laundryroom too, stay tuned for HER reveal on my blog. She loves it too.

  92. Wowsers! I really wondered about the green, but now I am a believer you can make ANY color look amazing!! I wish my house were more transformed since the last time you saw it. I may have to run and buy me another few paint samples for you to pass off. I have to ask~doesn't it bother you to have the washer and dryer so far apart? You can't just throw them in from one and right into the other--uless you are a pretty good shot! Love it &, LOVE you!! 4 more days!! YEAH!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow, what a great makeover! I love how you have used every square inch of your laundry room. I am inspired to now find a small desk/cabinet to help better organize my laundry room. I can't wait to hear about the beadboard wallpaper. :)

  96. Love it! I love the green too! The beadboard cabinets are adorable! As far as resale value vs. color...that room re-do just added value to your home with what you've done! Buyer's are going to love your house!

I need some help with my family room...maybe I will email you a picture. I just got new carpet and I went darker to hide all the dirt from the 5 kids but, now I have too much dark and brown! I need some help with paint color for end tables/coffee table? Would you help me out? I've spray painted our coffee table before black but, now it is too dark. I need your help because my husband won't go for a whole room re-do. It has to be small suttle things if you get my drift! lol
