Under $10, under an hour projects
Exactly the type of projects I love. I'm going to start a new category on my sidebar with easy peasy projects like these that don't break the bank.
You know the 3 legged tables I'm talking about. I seriously see them at yard sales and Goodwill all of the time, you may have some in your house, you can buy them at Walmart for around $7.
We had 2 that we used as nightstands, and when we graduated to a black Target bedroom set, (someday we may have real furniture!! ) we decided to get rid of the little tables.
They were sitting in the Goodwill pile and I was on the search for something to put above my boys' beds that wasn't small or knick-knacky. I wanted something clean and big, and saw some cute tin ovals in a girls bedroom in Pottery Barn with an initial on it for around $50. Hmmmmm, I start thinking, I wonder if I could make something similar. I go down to Lowes, start wandering the aisles, think of using tin garbage can lids, but those are like $15, ask if they cut pieces of tin, or have any round pieces of wood, and then ding, ding, ding! I remember the little table tops I have sitting at home! So, that's what I used and it couldn't be simpler.

The tops already have your "hangers" on the back, ready to go. Get some big, light, wooden letters from Hobby Lobby. These ones were $1.99. Align your letter with one of your hangers on the back so it will hang straight. Paint the letter the color of your choice, paint your circle using paint, spray paint, whatever. I used a small bottle of craft paint and it covered the two for me. Just barely though, I would suggest using 2. Let dry, attach the letter with a glue gun and you are set!
I love the big impact with such little money!
Think of all you could do with these~how cute would they be in a girls' room staple-gunned with cute fabric, her initial and a big, fat satin ribbon to hang it from?
What about decopauging scrapbook paper onto it?
You could make it look like it's hanging from rope in a boys room and cover it with burlap...
ohhhhh the possibilities! This worked for what I was looking for though.
That is absolutely creative!!! I wish I had saved my tops.. sigh. Wonderful blog you have! :o)
ReplyDeleteSo cute and clever; I think you accomplished exactly what you set out to do!
ReplyDeleteWoot! Love when inspiration comes from the Goodwill pile :O) Extremely cute and unique!
ReplyDeleteI saw this in your archives, Melissa and am so glad you brought it forward again. What a great idea! It's a nice size, too.

What a clever idea for those table rounds. It really does make a huge impact on a wall. Hugs, Marty

ReplyDeleteClassic and not too cutesy - perfect for boys' rooms! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love it!! I have some letters already, now I just need the tabletops. We just moved into our new house so the walls are so bare. Thanks for the great idea!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute and creative! I love it! I also like the stars you have hanging up. My son would love the initials and the stars. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite posts of yours! I started following you after I saw it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great use for the table top. You even have the metal piece which the leg screws into as a hanger. Very creative.
ReplyDeleteClever, clever! I love it! And cheap...my favorite thing! :D

Oh, you are good! I will never look at another of those tables the same way again. :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I used one of these table tops for a French Memo Board years ago. I still have it in the basement somewhere. I see a redo coming soon :)
ReplyDeleteI have one of these in the attic. I may have to get an initial and some extra blue paint. Great idea.

What a clever idea!
ReplyDeleteThis idea is genius! Wow, I'm so excited about this! I want to see more photos of this room too. I really like the decor you have going.
ReplyDeleteThats a clever idea with the table top. I had an old table for years, one day the leg broke and put it storage..I knew I'd use it someday for something!! Then just about a week ago, I was cleaning out an area in the basement and there was the old 2 legged table, covered in cobwebs for protection... so I took that poor ugly excuse of a table and spray painted it a turquoise green color and glued this curvy, twisted arch shaped piece bronzy brown in color to the table top( the arch was really light) and hung it on the wall, it looks really cool. Its the arch that makes it but the table makes a good backing for it. I also took the legs from the table and used them as curtain rods for 2 narrow windows in another room, I spray painted them, added some fabric from sheets that were leftover from a previous project, I screwed in large cup holders to hold the rods or legs and "cha ching" frugal me..
ReplyDeleteCheers, Rene~
Okay, these thrifty decorating blogs are turning me into a pack rat! I have to save everything now. I cannot bring myself to get rid of something I can spray paint and give new life too. Just so you know, I used to have one of these and got rid of it! Of how I wish I had it back! :)
