Glass Candle Hurricane: Park Avenue Edition

29 November 2009

I'm moving up... To make this edition, I stepped up from the Dollar Tree to the likes of Michaels, Hob Lob, and Walmart. I know, I know....you probably won't even be able to read a snobby blog like this anymore.

I wanted to make this one big and beautiful...as a gift for a friend that had us over for Thanksgiving and that has been so good to me since we've moved here.

The base is a candlestick from Hob Lob ($3 with coupon)

The big hurricane vase is from Michaels ($5 with coupon~found in candle aisle) and the white worship candle was from Walmart ($1.50)

The greenery and berries were from a bush. I have no idea what kind they are~hopefully they're not poisonous, but I thought they were so pretty. (free)

It's still under $10 and easy as pie to put together.

and...

I'm entering it in Michael's Handmade Holidays contest! There is a winner every week and part of the final score is the ratings. They said "you can send your friends, your co-workers, your family and whoever can help you increase your rating score."

Soooo, if you want to rate it, you can do it here (look for the snowmen under the picture~5 snowmen is the best) It may not be "crafty" enough, but it is for sure under $20 and I thought I'd give it a try. Winners can get a trip to NY to see Martha or a $250 Michael's gift card! Can you imagine??

Thank you~

Happy Monday!

  4. AFter your first post, I picked up a couple of those 'worship candles', but they didn't have vases big enough for them. I guess I will be joining you at the more 'upscale' shops to make my hurricanes as well :)

  9. Oh Melissa...
I am still laughing sweetie. Still what a great bargain. I love it.
Michaels and Hobby Lobby have the best sales. Can't beat them for price. When you have a coupon it really adds to the thrill of shopping.

The berries really add to the display. Thanks for sharing sweetie. So pretty.

    Country hugs...Sherry

  17. I love this idea. I went right over and rated it for you. What kind of glue do you use so it doesn't break apart. I would love to give it a try.

    Thanks,

  26. Melissa, I love this project! Thanks so much for sharing! I've made about 4 of these now, each with a different twist! One with cranberries, some with pine sprigs and I wrapped a ribbon around one and added a dollar tree pointsetta to dress it up a bit more, if you have a chance, stop by and check them out . . .

  27. I love your DT hurricane glass, and the 'upscale' version is also nice! I just wanted to say after rereading the DT tutorial that hot glue isn't very secure on glass. You should try E6000- those babies will never come apart!
