I'm moving up... To make this edition, I stepped up from the Dollar Tree to the likes of Michaels, Hob Lob, and Walmart. I know, I know....you probably won't even be able to read a snobby blog like this anymore.
I wanted to make this one big and beautiful...as a gift for a friend that had us over for Thanksgiving and that has been so good to me since we've moved here.
I wanted to make this one big and beautiful...as a gift for a friend that had us over for Thanksgiving and that has been so good to me since we've moved here.
The big hurricane vase is from Michaels ($5 with coupon~found in candle aisle) and the white worship candle was from Walmart ($1.50)
The greenery and berries were from a bush. I have no idea what kind they are~hopefully they're not poisonous, but I thought they were so pretty. (free)
It's still under $10 and easy as pie to put together.
and...
I'm entering it in Michael's Handmade Holidays contest! There is a winner every week and part of the final score is the ratings. They said "you can send your friends, your co-workers, your family and whoever can help you increase your rating score."
Soooo, if you want to rate it, you can do it here (look for the snowmen under the picture~5 snowmen is the best) It may not be "crafty" enough, but it is for sure under $20 and I thought I'd give it a try. Winners can get a trip to NY to see Martha or a $250 Michael's gift card! Can you imagine??
Thank you~
Happy Monday!
Wonderful gift! I will invite you over anytime! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job and it looks beautiful. I'm sure your friend was all to happy to recieve it.

Very pretty! I love it... even if it's a big snobbish.... hee hee!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
AFter your first post, I picked up a couple of those 'worship candles', but they didn't have vases big enough for them. I guess I will be joining you at the more 'upscale' shops to make my hurricanes as well :)
ReplyDeleteI have the makings of one too! Just didn't get to it YET! LOVE this one. Thanks for sharing another great idea.
ReplyDeleteSee what you can do when you frequent those snooty places!!! Lol, very creative! Love doing those kinds of things, really sweet, and all under $10.00! xoxo~Kathy @ Sweet Up-North Mornings...
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and I have the makings for one of these on hand. I will totally be copying this idea!
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny, I was expecting something more expensive, as I don't really know the price range of thaose stores you mentioned! But I tell you what... It looks a million bucks for sure! Nice job.
ReplyDeleteOh Melissa...
ReplyDeleteI am still laughing sweetie. Still what a great bargain. I love it.
Michaels and Hobby Lobby have the best sales. Can't beat them for price. When you have a coupon it really adds to the thrill of shopping.
The berries really add to the display. Thanks for sharing sweetie. So pretty.
Country hugs...Sherry
You are so crafty. I wish I could think up all these ideas. LOL And no, I won't quit reading because you stepped up to Hob Lob etc.:) I went there 3 times last week.
ReplyDeleteI will not shun you because you stepped up your crafting game....uh uh.
ReplyDeleteYour hurricane is soooooo beautiful.
How thoughtful of you - it looks gorgeous! You really know how to rock the bargain sections!
ReplyDeleteReally, Melissa, what are you thinking? ; ) I laughed out loud at your post title. This turned out really nice and I'm sure your friend will love it. Love the touch of the real berries you added.
ReplyDeleteSuper easy idea ~ and pretty too! I think it definitely deserves 5 snowmen!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful; you're so talented!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it Melissa! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteIf only there were a Hobby Lobby near me! Ahhhhh.
ReplyDeleteLove it, love it, as usual. :)
I love this idea. I went right over and rated it for you. What kind of glue do you use so it doesn't break apart. I would love to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Ruth
I making some of these up for Christmas gifts this year!
ReplyDeleteThe berries add a really nice touch! The look like Brazilian Pepper Tree berries to me :) Keep them away from your eyes!
I happened upon your blog and saw your first make on these and LOVED it. This one is even better! You have a great blog that is an automatic favorite. I love the topic of DIY decor! Thanks for the ideas. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteI voted 5 for ya- very pretty!
ReplyDeleteOK, I did get the materials from the one you did at the DT. But I'm liking this base allot better. So I guess I need to head to the Lob, coupon in hand. Very pretty. I hope you win the thing at Michaels.

ReplyDeleteThanks!
Melissa, I love this project! Thanks so much for sharing! I've made about 4 of these now, each with a different twist! One with cranberries, some with pine sprigs and I wrapped a ribbon around one and added a dollar tree pointsetta to dress it up a bit more, if you have a chance, stop by and check them out . . .
ReplyDeleteI love your DT hurricane glass, and the 'upscale' version is also nice! I just wanted to say after rereading the DT tutorial that hot glue isn't very secure on glass. You should try E6000- those babies will never come apart!
ReplyDeleteokay, now we're talking!!! great gift for your friend.
ReplyDeleteTotally enjoying your bloggie....rafts of great ideas and tips....I'll be back!
ReplyDeleteWarm Christmas Blessings,
