Hi y'all! Great news to share: we got 2 offers on our house last week and we accepted one this weekend. Woowoowooo-hooo!
Of course it's not a done deal until the money is in the bank, but it's a first huge step in the right direction, right?
So, to celebrate, I bought something.
Last Saturday while our house was being shown, I was driving around with the kids and happened upon a yard sale. I saw this dresser and loved it. I couldn't believe it was still there at 3 in the afternoon.

Last Saturday while our house was being shown, I was driving around with the kids and happened upon a yard sale. I saw this dresser and loved it. I couldn't believe it was still there at 3 in the afternoon.
But then I opened it up and saw inside~not very practical storage, nothing worked, it was covered in 10 layers of dust, and we're moving. We're supposed to be getting rid of stuff, not buying, right?
So, I left it there, but I couldn't stop thinking about it all week. I loved the handles, the shape, the size, it was real wood, and I began thinking I could remove the old record player and radio and put in some shelves perhaps? And for $10~what was there to lose?
Why didn't you get it, Melissa?
I went back on Friday crossing my fingers and guess what? The nice lady still had it in her garage, I handed over the $10, and she helped me load it into the back of the van. Wahooooo! I put some Target 75% off finds on top I found Wednesday night during another showing. It's a good thing there won't be any more showings, or I might keep finding more things. I'll have to show you what I found at the Dollar Tree later.... ;)
I can't wait to get to work on it. I want it to be a classic, timeless piece that I could find a home for wherever we move to. And I love that I will always remember celebrating the sale of our house here when I look at it.
Of course, I'll show you the after when I'm finished. I'm also planning on taking you on a virtual tour of our house with befores and afters too~you know I didn't have a perfectly clean house for one whole week without taking some pictures, right?? I'll also talk about what I did to get it ready to show. Wow, I'm promising a lot, aren't I? :)
Happy Monday, y'all~

Oh my WORD, Melissa! Two offers the first week on the market?? You must be thrilled! Is the market that hot where you are, or is it just that your house is SO stinking cute???
ReplyDeleteI love that yard sale find--wow!
I can't WAIT for befores and afters!
That is terrific!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat find, so many possibilities for it. Congrats on the contract on your house.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see you pictures.
Sandy
It was worth every penny of ten dollar. Great lines!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do to it.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky was that? I had to keep my house clean for 9 months! Maybe it isn't so much luck as it is Heavenly Father helping you get on your way! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your home - that's going to make things SO much easier. I think you found a great find, I can just picture her all looking pertty.

Congratulations! I am so happy for you guys :) So now do you get to begin a house hunting search or will you guys rent for while?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much everyone! I have no idea if we'll rent or buy~we'll have to see how we feel when we get out there and look at houses. And yes, I have to acknowledge God's hand in all of this~I told Him if this is the place he wants us to be, that I know he would prepare the way, and He truly is...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and what a relief that must be.
ReplyDeleteYAY! Melissa I am so happy for you all! In this tough market that is no easy task. I hope all goes well with the closing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous piece you found. Love how you diplayed it with the sweet sign. Very pretty! ;)
Congratulations, Melissa! I took mine off for the holiday season and we will go back on in February. There is a lot of potential in that dresser for $10.00! I think you could do so many different things with the inside and it looks like a good size that will fit in with any room.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!!! So happy your home sold and what a fantastic thing in this day and time. Love the new chest you found, can't wait to see it all redone. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteCongrats Melissa !
ReplyDeleteYou must be so happy and excited to ahve two offers on your home. Love your beautiful find and how lucky were you that it was still there. Can't wait for the before and after pics.
Toni
i love it!! i love finding beauty in the cast aside things... just think - that was hidden in a garage! and now it looks beautiful and you did a great job decorating the top of it. lora
ReplyDeleteI love when a piece of furniture has a "story", and your cabinet has such great bones too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the offer... hope the whole process goes smoothly for you.
I am so happy, happy, happy for you! And I just love that you're going to have this wonderful dresser as a reminder of this special time. That's a wonderful thing! Makes me want to go to some garage sales. There are probably lots of occasions that would be fun to mark by the acquisition of some kind of treasure. . . as long as the treasure isn't expensive!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Congratulations!! I hope the rest of the process goes through with no problems.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! I love that you will have a wonderful story to go along with this piece. Can't wait to see the transformation.
Fabulous find! Congrats on the house. I am so glad your house is getting shown furnished instead of vacant. I have a second home that has been on the market over a year. It will sell eventually, but it sure showed better when our stuff was in it. I'll be at your party later. Getting all my goodies together for it!
ReplyDeleteWow, congrats! And I'm BEYOND jealous of this fabulous find! :)
ReplyDeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal with wonderful bones!
Congrats on selling your home so quickly... You are doubly blessed this week.
I am looking forward to peeking at your beautfiful finished product which will probably sell for 30 times what you paid. What a beautiful keep sake she will make!
~♥
Love it!! You must have a great house if you got 2 offers the first week. :) Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gem! How lucky that it was still there when you went back. It was meant to be. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous find! It was meant to be yours. Congratulations on your home sale!
ReplyDeleteAwesome find...I redid an armoire given to me by my husband's grandparents estate...it had BUILT IN 8 tracks, BUILT IN, stereo speakers...you get the picture. It was a PAIN to get out, but totally worth every second. It's so original and people comment all the time...your piece is even better. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI think that it will be a great piece when you get finished with it. We just closed on our new home today and we start moving tomorrow. I need to try and remember to take photos and blog about everything. I can't wait to see your before and after. I have started a post about our home that we left. I just haven't had time to finish it up.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about putting shelves in that beautiful cabinet... gut it and use it to store blankets and other comfy things to snuggle on the sofa with :) Well.. that's what I'd do. ;)
Congrats on the sale! All of your hard work paid off, I'm sure the buyers are in love with your/their house. :)
ReplyDeleteThe cabinet is gorgeous, or at least it will be when you're done with it. ;)
It's no surprise to me that you had two offers on your house the first week it was on the market. Look at all the wonderful things you and your husband have done to it. I'm with Kimm - your hard work paid off! Very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
That cabinet made me get tears in my eyes. My Grandma use to have a cabinet just like that with the old radio and record player. When we would go to her house that was the favorite thing to play with. We would pretend to be secret spies and that cabinet would be our secret cabinet. I can't wait to see what you do with it!!
ReplyDeleteThat is terrific! To sell a house in a week is a true blessing in this market! Have fun moving!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the offers for your home!
ReplyDeleteLove your yard sale find...wish you lived closer to me and then you could shop for me. I never have a clue of what to get or if it is even worth it.
Lucky you! Can't wait to see wht you do with it and where it goes next!
ReplyDeleteMelinda

Way to go with your instincts and buy what you LOVE (and for $10). I predict that will end up being one of your favorite pieces. It already looks good with the Target finds on top. Congratulations for a wonderful deal.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your TWO offers! That's wonderful.
