Fantastic Appliance Deal & question for you

13 October 2010

Best Buy has a great package deal on stainless appliances right now:

The top mount refrigerator package is only $1200 for all 4:

The side by side refrigerator package is $1500.

The side by side fridge does not get good review at all. We don’t need a fridge though….sooo, my question is: Do you have any experience with Frigidaire? We were going to replace our 15 year old appliances for Christmas, but I don’t know if we’re going to find a better deal than this. You can buy the pieces separately as well:

Side by side refrigerator $714.99

Top Mount Refrigerator 421.99

Range $356.99

Over the range Microwave $149

Dishwasher $246.99

The deal goes through Saturday…I already tried price beating at Lowes and Sears, but mine said they couldn’t beat it if they don’t have the same model numbers. I don’t think Black Friday will even beat this.

What do you think??

  1. We've got a frigidaire dishwasher and it's great! :)

  2. I have all Frigidaire appliances (even washer and dryer) and have been very happy with them. Great deal!

  3. Frigidaire is great, just don't buy a GE, I've had terrible luck with those. Also, I don't like the side by side, you can barely fit a pizza in there. I say go for the package deal, you'll kick yourself if you don't!

  4. I love hearing from real people, not just consumer reports...thank you!

  5. My parents always had Frigidaire-and my Mom is a stickler on getting the best product to last for years. You're smart to look into things and not just jump because of the price.

  6. we have a side by side and i love the ice maker/water dispenser but i do not like the side by side as said above you can't fit a pizza in there...next frig is freezer on top or 1 of those pull outs on bottom

  7. Both times we have bought appliances for new homes we have gone with frigidaire. I love my fridge. I have never had any problems with them. In fact, one of the main reasons I didn't want to move last time was because I didn't want to leave my beloved appliances behind.

  8. You will probably find as many good experiences as bad...but I'll have to add the dissenting opinion here. Our house came with Frigidaire appliances, and we've had problems with the stove, the dishwasher, and the microwave in the 7 years we've owned the house. I agree that Frigidaire's prices are often excellent, but I wouldn't choose that brand for myself again.

  9. I have all Frigidaire appliances, excluding our refrigerator, and we love them. Our house was remodeled before we bought it and they put Frigidaire kitchen appliances. The only reason we don't have a Frigidaire refrigerator is because my husband had to have one of those fancy, bottom drawer refrigerators. :-) Great deals though!

  10. We just bought a SS KitchenAid fridge. I despise it because it's a full time job keeping it looking clean. Every fingerprint and water droplet shows up. Never, never, again. It's so pretty when I wipe it down, but it doesn't even make it through a couple hours like that.

    ReplyDelete
  11. My opinion, I'm not a fan of Frigidaire. I've seen their inexpesive package deals and contemplated them, but they just 'feel' cheap to me. They don't close as strong or something...can't explain it.

Every Frigidaire dishwasher I've ever had was awful. That's what was in my house when I bought it too.

So as my appliances break, I'm replacing them with Whirlpool. I love my Whirlpool dishwasher! And Samsung is supposed to great too.

As someone else said, you'll probably get as many positives as negatives.

  12. I think the saying "you get what you pay for" definitely applies here. We chose all Frigidaire appliances when we built our home 4 years ago, and have already had to replace the dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator. Frigidaire is not the same quality brand it once was.

Also, stainless steel really is impossible to keep clean. We have the finish that is not supposed to show fingerprints, but it shows everything. It also scratches very, very easily!

  13. our appliances are all frig. (thats what came with our home)and we haven't had any problems and we are coming up on four yrs. living in our home... If you want to save money don't get the side by side since the reviews aren't that great.. If you don't need the refrigerator then get the top freezer one and stick it in your garage/basement for food storage!!

  14. That is a great deal, but I stay away from frigidaire appliances like the plague. My parents have tried several appliances from them throughout the years and every single one has had major problems. I've known several people who've had the same problem with them. Now, I've also known some people who get them and don't have a problem, but I've never been willing to take that chance with such a big purchase. I'm all about my Kenmore appliances. Good luck!

  15. I have a 3 yr old Whirlpool SS kitchen package deal. I'm not happy with the dishwasher at all, everything still has water droplets all over it, and yes I use a rinse agent, heated dry and have soft water.

My other complaint isn't brand related. The black smooth top ranges are so much harder to keep clean looking than the white/grey ones. I have both and will not get another one with the black top. Every little smear shows, I am constantly cleaning and buffing it clean. My white/grey one wipes down and looks great without showing every little spot.

  16. We bought a Fridgedaire gas stove to replace an old one that stopped working. I loved it! It worked wonders and miracles in my cooking adventures. LOL!! Sadly it is in storage now, as we moved to an apartment to save money for our next house, after moving to a new area. I have to say I don't care for either top mount or side by side. I hate side by side fridges. They fit nothing. I have to say that I adored my freezer on the bottom fridge. Is there one of those in a package deal? You wouldn't regret getting one of those.

  17. We bought a set of frigidaire professional series appliances one year ago. We had a problem at first with the side-by-side fridge getting too cold. It was fixed and has been great ever since. I love my oven and the dishwasher is nice although I like the bosch that I had before. I love my front-load washer and dryer.

    ReplyDelete
  18. We recently bought a "fake stainless steel" fridge from Costco and I love it. It is not as shiny, BUT it is wonderful, because it gives you a stainless steel look, BUT is so clean. The fingerprints and smudges are not noticeable. I Love It with my 3 preschoolers. I would highly recommend going with the silver/gray knock-off if you have kids.

    ReplyDelete
  19. There is no brand that is going to give you the best of every thing. Frigidaire makes great fridges, Bosch makes the best dish washers but to get the best of everything you have to be willing to pay a lot of money. This sound like a great deal. I have a side by side Frigidaire and its nearly 6 years old. I have had not a days problems with it. I bought it at Best Buy. I would go for it. Consider buying the extra warranty to extend the time your appliances would be covered. Best Buys is normally good if that would give you some extra peace of mind. Good luck

  20. Our house is 5 years old and we've already had to replace our frigidaire dishwasher. Our range is partially functional at this point (we've lost use of one burner). With the frigidaire quality we've experienced, I would say this isn't that great of a deal unless you want to start replacing these appliances before they're 5 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have the frigidaire package- everything you have above. There are a few dings on the front- I don't know where they came from except to say blame it on the kids. I haven't had a problem keeping them clean, but the fridge will show drips from the dispenser if a cup overflows and fingerprints... I don't care for the smaller freezer, but I've had a side/side in another brand and had the same problem. The stove, dishwasher and microwave work great. I think the "smooth" stoves are a little tricky to keep clean if something burns on it. The cleaner you get with the appliance doesn't work, but you can get something other cleaner at a big box store. They are nice looking in my opinion.

  22. We moved into our house 3 years ago and it came with Frigidaire appliances. The appliances are the same age as the house, 11 years old, and they work very well. We have not had any issues. Nothing special about any of them but they work every time and don't give us grief!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would stay away from Frigidaire refers. I've had 2 side by sides and they both fell apart. Yes, fell apart!

    ReplyDelete
  24. In our current and previous home, we have had Frigidaire refrigerators. We have had problems with both refrigerators. In our last home, we had to replace the water filter every 4 months or so because it would leak water inside the fridge otherwise (and filters are not cheap...about $60 each). In our current home, the refrigerator recently had issues with keeping our food too cold. We often came home to frozen milk and leftovers. My husband asked the repairman which brands he rarely makes service calls for (because we are considering a new refrigerator) and he said that he rarely services GE and Whirlpool. He said that the thing with Frigidaire is that they are affordable; however, replacement parts are expensive. It cost $400 to repair our refrigerator (fortunately it was covered under our home warranty). I should also add that both refrigerators were less than 5 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  25. My advice would be to call a few local appliance repairmen, and get their opinion. Ask them it this brand has lots of service calls, and the expense of the parts. They will be able to give you an honest answer, and tell you which brands have been the most reliable if their experience.

  26. Unless you really luv stainless, avoid it. We did when we purchased appliances 6 yrs ago. Almost everyone we knew bought stainless & has or wants to switch back to white or black. We had a reg. fridge & switched to a side by side...I miss the old fridge! We had probs w/ the freezer side, w/ in the 1st two years. Others I know have had freezer issues, or hinge issues w/ the side by sides. The hold beauty v.s. sturdy. The prices are great though!!

  27. We've got the fridge and microwave from Frigidaire (stainless LOOK though -- no finger prints!) They're pretty great! But I really like Danette's idea (above)!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I believe Best Buy will match (or beat?) any online price that you can find (as long as the model number is the same). Doesn't hurt to do an online search and see if you can find a better deal!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't help you with this brand. We have a Samsung refrig. and an Electrolux stove. Our house that we are moving into does have a Frigidaire dishwasher and microwave so I will know soon if I like them:)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wow that is an amazing deal, I would be lucky if I could get just the fridge for that price down here! I like Danettes idea of checking with your appliance repair person. We did this before we purchased our LG Microwave about 5 years ago, it really paid off as this one has not missed a beat and the previous 2 only lasted till they were just out of warranty!
I think with all brands you are going to get some good and some bad products, it's a bit like cars - they can be exactly the same product but one is an absolute lemon!

Like our Samsung Fridge Freezer - a friend and I both picked the same product and purchased within a month of each other without realising the other had got the exact same thing. Within two years she had replaced her's because of the never-ending repairs and warranty claims she was making, mine is still going strong nearly 10 years on!

  31. Personally, I hate stainless. It never stays clean, especially with kids. You can see finger prints all over it. I went with "stainless look" that was a heck of a lot cheaper and very rarely do people know the difference until I tell them. I got my package at Lowes. My stove is Frigidaire and I love it. The rest are Whirlpool.

  32. Also, for those complaining about not being able to put a pizza into a side by side - it dries out in the box anyway! Take the leftovers, put them on a plate and voila. It fits, and it'll taste better. =)

I will agree with some other comments though - I upgraded to GE appliances because some of the Fridgidares seemed "flimsy". I only got a Fridgidare range because it was gas and they didn't have a stainless look GE gas in stock.

  33. I am a research kind of person when it comes to appliances and other things. I do go by Consumer Reports. Also, want to point out a few things. If you go to the energy star website, you can see which ones are energy star. Also, note that ending this year, are tax credits of 30 percent, up to 1500.00 for certain appliances, insulation in your home, etc. Also, note some states, have additional rebate amounts. I suggest you print out the energy star list of those that qualify for the credit. Not all energy star appliances will qualify. Unfortunately, the list doesn’t tell you what kind of doors the appliance has. I personally would base my decisions on what I have just mentioned AND Consumer Reports. As someone mentioned in the comments, another suggestion for style of fridge, is the bottom mount freezer, and the top can be French doors. Also, stainless will show smudges/fingerprints.
Personally, I would question why the package is so cheap, most refrigerators are going to be $1000.00 plus. Hope I didn't dampen your enthusiasm.
    Hope this helps.

  34. I have recently started replacing every large appliance in our home with Kenmore Elite because I was sick of replacing other brands every few years. The most important factor of replacing your appliances is not the price/sale, it's getting the best quality and features you can afford. A good sale price may sound real good but will the appliance last for a long time. Usually those package deals are full of cheaply made products so just watch out.

    ReplyDelete
  35. We are huge fans of Kenmore, and I get most of my appliances at the Sears outlet. I renew the warranty each year and its cheaper than what I would have paid regular retail. My 7 year old Kenmore just got a new ice maker courtesy of that warranty. We paid 700.00 for that fridge 7 years ago, and every year renew the warranty for 68.00. More than paid for the repair. (it orig retailed for 1999 we got it 1/2 off and then additional 30% (or something like that) off sale. Works for me.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't do it. We have all Frigidaire appliances, microwave went out at 14 months, dishwasher requires me to rub my belly, pat my head, and turn the knob just to get it to use the hot cycle. Stove takes forever to heat up. I am replacing them as they break completely.

  37. Thank you, all! Love each and every input. What a great idea to call local repair men for input as well. And, I completely agree that with any brand, there can be lemons. I would LOVE a french door refrigerator, but it's not in the budget right now and our one from Texas is still going strong, so we're not replacing it right now. We're getting the microwave from this deal, and probably going with Whirlpool or Kenmore for the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Many of the Kenmore appliances are made by Whirlpool. Ask your Sears salesman who manufactures the particular Kenmore appliance you're interested in. We've had great luck with Kenmore appliances, including our washer and dryer. We had Jenn-Aire appliances in our last house (they came with the builder spec house we bought) and had constant problems with them. Kenmore has proven to be far more reliable and functional.

  39. I just had a repair man come and look at my dishwasher which is an 11 year old Whirlpool. His opinion is that Whirpool is the best you can buy.

  42. Wow! What a deal I totally missed that in the add this week. I wish I had the money to do that right now. I need new appliances.

  43. Hold out for Black Friday! Last year I got a top of the line Whirlpool Front Loading washer/dryer for less that $900 for the set! I am hoping to find as good a deal on a fridge this year! I've gotten so many great deals from your tips, I know that with your bargain hunting prowess you will find better appliances for not much more money than this! Can't wait to hear what you end up with!

    ReplyDelete
  44. It is my understanding that consumer reports always bashes Frigidaire and I've been "warned" from sales folk & friends alike. However, we bought all new Frigidaire appliances (similar to the side-by-side package) 8 years ago and ZERO issues. 7 years ago we bought a white Frigidaire standing (non-chest if that makes sense) and ZERO issues. We also bought a smaller Frigidaire refridge (some call it a "beer fridge", but since we don't drink it is our "diet coke & juice box fridge") 5 years ago and ZERO issues.

My advice for any major purchase is this: buy the best you can afford at the time you need it. If your stuff is still working, I'd keep saving. If you can't/don't want to wait...then buy whatever is best for your budget now. You'll never be regret buying what you CAN afford. It is always the over-spending that causes pain. Hope it helps

  45. I have all Frigidaire appliances and have had to replace the dishwasher once and the new one now is leaking and it's only been a year and a half later. The fingerproof stovetop has changed color underneath the burners. We would not buy Frigidaire again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. i purchased a frigidaire front load washer and dryer. It takes an hour to do a load in the washer. The washing time is suppose to match the drying time but you can't wash anything in a hurry. I also have trouble if I do a small load it doesn't seem to spin as well and my clothes come out with more water in them at the end of the cycle. I have to throw in a towel or two just to increase the load size. My daughters front load is done in half and hour. Not sure what brand she has. my biggest unhappiness after getting a nice washer and dryer is an unknown child and myself have unknowingly pre spotted clothes with a stain remover spray bottle and the spray got on the door of the dryer and removed the pretty silver finish around the door. Now it is all spotted. The silver is not nice and pretty any more and that happened within a month after we got it. you just don't think about it and don't notice it until it is too late. Once the spray is on the door and sits it eats the top finish off and I haven't found anything to make it less noticable. Hate to complain but just not loving it as much as I thought I would. I have had my set for a couple of years and it seems that my washer door is leaking. And I had to have a repair man come to unclog the drainage tube only months after we got it. We have a dog. I have to clean off her blanket with a dog brush before I can wash it. My first washer was a Maytag we bought from an auction and hardly had a problem with it for 20 years. Wish you happy days with your decisions.

  47. Oh wow what a deal!

I will say this though [and I know this is coming a few days late]. We have that same Frigidaire dishwasher and let me just say the first few times we used it, it was completely quiet... a dream! Well it's only been 7months since we had it and it has gotten louder and I have noticed it takes FOREVER... I repeat FOREVER to wash a load of dishes... a lot longer than any dishwasher I have ever used/had.

All of our appliances are brand new but black in color. Our Fridge, Microwave and stove are all Whirlpool and they work awesome... the dishwasher however... I can't wait to get rid of that thing. We are looking for new *stainless* steel appliances and this sounds like an awesome deal, however after my experience with Frigidaire... I will wait a little, save up some and buy the better brand.

    Good luck!

  48. Frigidaire is the devil. Seriously. That. Bad.

Crummy, built to not last. The old ones (like your grandma had) were fab but they haven't been good in 20+ years. We had so many problems with one we had to go all "lemon laws" on them.

I don't care if they are $5 w/a $5 off coupon - I will not have another Frigidaire anything in my house.

Appliance repairmen now? They love 'em.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I second the vote for Whirlpool/Kenmore.

We've had some issues here and here with our Kenmore but NOTHING like the Frigidaire which started having problems at about 1 year old and had them consistently from then on.

    ReplyDelete
  50. When we bought our house, we replaced all the appliances (gas stove, S/S fridge, microwave and dishwasher with Fridgidare Gallery. It's a step up from the basic Fridgidare and we haven't had any issues. They are a little over a year old and still work in perfect condition.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I understand this is a little (just found your blog) but I work at Best Buy. This deal was UNDER cost! We have to get a kick back through the company to make money on this deal. We had a ton of orders!
