stripe duvet covers = striped curtains

06 February 2013

Sooo, speaking of curtains from tablecloths, how about curtains from duvet covers?? My sister Kelsey (here and here) got this awesome idea from her, sister-in-law Heather. (Remember Heather? She did the front door monogram bucket!) These girls have great taste.

She used the stripe duvet cover from Target and made her own horizontal striped curtains out of it! I thought it was brilliant, AND they are on clearance in stores and online right now (looks like they are sold out) so I picked some up, you know…so I can try it out if I want to on an upcoming project. Just wanted to give you heads up before they are all gone. I got king size so I can have extra tall curtains. Thanks, Kels and Heather!

  1. I finally found a Target that had some on clearance!  I bought the navy and white for my son's room and the gray and white for my family room...but now I am kind of freaking out!  What colors can I paint the walls???  I want my house to be cozy but bright.  The stripes are a big stretch for me, I LOVE them but SUPER bold move for me!!!  HELP!  (I've checked out favorite paint colors, Kristen and I were in a married ward together in Provo, LOVE HER) anyway...not sure where to go from here!

  2. What an awesome find, Melissa! Is one of those sets black & white?! I have been scouring the Internet for curtains (even just fabric!) in this pattern, at a decent price. Please tell me it's black and not navy blue??? ;)

I am so sorry to tell you that they are indeed navy. Other colors are gray and raspberry, but it looks like the gray is sold out online. Good luck on your quest for b/w striped fabric!

So glad you posted this!  I just bought white curtains to paint horizontal stripes on and I've heard it's very tedious!  This might just save me the work.  You must share pictures of your sister's finished curtains.

  5. Good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking of using duvet covers for window panels, Melissa.  There is a set I want to get at Ikea, but I didn't remember seeing curtain panels that go with it.  Plus, I think the ties that are on the duvet for the set I was looking at will work well to just tie onto the drapery rod.

Patterns on sheets and duvets....for some reason...are way better than regular fabric from the store. It is all going to look great.

  7. Thanks for posting this!  There weren't any in my area so I sent out an email to family members and my Mom was able to find 4 at her Target!  The price was listed at $19.98 but my Dad was able to get them to reduce that price to the online price of $9.98!  I got 4 for the price of 1!  I am actually going to use them as a duvet and not curtains for my boys room :)
