tile accents in bathrooms

20 February 2014

I’ve been seeing a lot of tile accents in bathrooms lately. I think it’s a clever and inexpensive way to add a little detail and oomph.

It can also save lots of money! Look at how Aubrey & Lindsay’s blog used inexpensive subway tile with more expensive carrara on the floor and a with an accent strip around the shower:
...Rather than having a 12" tall accent, simply cut this sheet containing 10 columns with 10 rows into 5 rows of 2x10 squares, or 2 rows of 5x10 squares. Your accent strip will be smaller, but you'll save a lot of money here. Remember how pretty this shower looked?

This is more of a modern look:We love oversized subway tiles in this bathroom! The addition of glass accent tiles gives the space a custom look without being over the top. This is perfect for your secondary bathrooms. We also love the square showerhead from the #deltafaucet Dryden collection.cameo homes
And another bathroom with some sweet, subtle tile accents:http://thesweetestdigs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/DSC_1051.jpgthe sweetest digs

And you know I have a thing for penny tile!COR_8855camille roskelley
What do you think? Trendy or a smart way to add some character to the bathroom? Will tile accents be around to stay or will they go the way of the painted accent wall?

  1. I like it but have a feeling it will be more of a trend that dates a bathroom in the long run.

  2. I'm about to gut my bathroom and plan to use a strip of accent tiles. We plan to stay very neutral, but add the glass accent to jazz things up a bit. I hope it doesn't look too out of date in the short term. At least it will show future buyers that we completely redid the bath, even if they don't love the style.

  3. Hi there. Go and take a look at this article by fellow blogger and color expert
    http://www.mariakillam.com/whiteisold/.
I think she has some very valid points and based on that I can only say I like the first one of the photos. I think the rest will be dated to soon or locks you into one color scheme which is never good.

  8. We added accent tile in the form of the same tile in a different shape/size. We are very happy with it. I can't figure out how to add a photo here or I'd show you. :o)
