Good morning! Actually -- this post is about mornings. Our day begins at 6:10 when our oldest gets up to be out the door at 6:45 for carpool. I’m learning that anything that can be done the night before seems to pave the way for a smoother morning. Something that has helped our morning prep time a lot with our girls showering at night. Mostly because they have long hair and it gives them time for it to dry, to braid it for waves, etc.
I have half an hour until the next shift comes up for breakfast/scriptures at 7:15. That is usually my quiet time to read, go over calendar and plan for the day. I’m amazed at how different children can be with waking up. One is like clockwork. The alarm goes off, he’s up and out to the kitchen. My baby (okay, he’s 6 now) still loves to be sleep as long as possible and be carried out to the table with his kitty blanket. Some mornings we are in the older kids’ bedrooms a couple of times trying to get them up and out.
Breakfast is random -- it’s usually cereal, oatmeal, smoothies, toast + cheesy eggs, or an egg sandwich. For special mornings we like to make baked oatmeal (a recipe from my mother-in-law) with blueberries or crepes (a recipe from my dad).
For crazy mornings, we love to keep these on hand: Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches! I buy the boxes at Costco.
Why I love them:
They are quick to prepare: 80 seconds in the microwave. NO turning, stirring and flipping, 1 minute at half power nonsense. Just put it in and it’s ready to grab and eat on the way to basketball practice. Good protein and only about 90 cents each.
I’ve mentioned before that when I only take blog post campaigns for things I love, and these are already a star player in some of our mornings, so it was perfect for me.
AND my husband and I love these -- the Jimmy Dean Delights with turkey sausage, egg white, and cheese for only 250 calories.

I am not a morning person! But when I plan out the night before, things go much smoother! I like sending the kids off with a warm breakfast, doesn't happen always but we try
ReplyDeleteCoffee and a homemade breakfast sandwich...Jimmy Dean would be a lot faster! :)
ReplyDeleteI love those Jimmy Dean Sandwiches. We buy them in the big pack from Costco.Nothing like starting my morning off walking to the corner to get my oldest on the bus and coming back with my little one and having a cup of coffee and working on my blog for a while.
ReplyDeleteRunning or walking at 5:15. Then I sit and read my Bible and savor my coffee and eat some protein and some fruit for another 1/2 hour before showering and dressing for the day!
ReplyDeleteI start the day by nursing/cuddling my baby
ReplyDeleteFirst things first: coffee! I go through phases on what I eat and right now it's cream of wheat. Sometimes I make my own sausage, egg, English muffin sandwich. Pop the muffin into the toaster oven, spray a ramekin with non-stick spray, whisk one egg with a little S&P and sprinkle in some sausage crumbles (I cook up a lb and keep it in a baggie in the freezer and just grab what I need), microwave the egg, butter my muffin, assemble and eat. It's ready in about 5 minutes (including toasting time).
ReplyDeleteMy best way to start the day is to exercise before my kids wake up. It puts me in a great mood for the whole day!

ReplyDeleteI had had it so easy. All 3 of my children would wake up ,dress get their own breakfast and be out the door on time.I never had to wake them up.As far as breakfast went at an early age I taught them how to get their own.Whether it was cereal or eggs.Independence was always taught. One loved pancakes and sausage rolled up.I have my cup of coffee and grab something good.Weekends are different,I would make french toast, chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream.
ReplyDeleteI love to start the day with my oatmeal and the newspaper - boring I know but relaxing.
ReplyDeleteSame thing everyday - scrambled egg whites with diced tomatoes, bell peppers and spinach.
ReplyDeleteFirst thing is coffee! We already eat these sandwiches though. So good.

ReplyDeleteI start my morning with sweet tea or a diet coke. I don't normally eat breakfast but when I do its something quick like Jimmy Dean sausage and biscuit. chedeb5353@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have my Slim, read my Bible and do my devotions and then have that first cup of coffee:).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win. We almost always make trader joes multigrain oatmeal! It sticks to your ribs, keeping us full and giving us energy! I have twin 2-year-olds, so energy is there anyways, but at least I know their big/little bellies are happy. I let the boys choose their toppings. They usually bring out the honey, raspberries, blueberries, raisins and bananas. Yum! Love seeing your kids in that gorgeous kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteMy best morning start with a run before anyone else in the house is awake.
ReplyDeleteEvery morning I eat breakfast with my baby (he's a 6th grader): for him cereal, for me fried egg with ham and a cup of French Vanilla coffee.
ReplyDeleteA good cup of coffee and a few minutes to ponder are a must for my mornings!
ReplyDeleteCoffee COFFEE Coffee
ReplyDeleteSad to say but Diet Coke and Reese's
ReplyDeleteWhen I get to bed on time (usually), I love getting up early to exercise and have it all done before our kids are up. Thanks!
ReplyDeletethese sound good! I often make biscuits early in the morning, then have them with coffee and sometimes add ins!
ReplyDelete2 weeks ago at church, our pastor was talking about tithing. He was talking about it being our first fruits, the first thing we do when getting paid is write out our tithe check. This is a principle my husband and I have practiced our whole marriage, but then he mentioned our time too. It made so much sense to me that God would want at least a tenth of my time, and not only that, but it should be the first time I give during my day. Since then, the first thing I do when I wake up is spend time with God. I really love it! Plus, it's an excuse for me to stay in bed a little bit longer :)
ReplyDeleteI like to start the day with yogurt.
ReplyDeletemami2jcn at gmail dot com
We have pretty low key mornings since all our kids are not yet in school. I just have to make sure I get my shower in before my husband heads off for work!
ReplyDeleteFirst thing I do in the morning is wake up my son for school. He is a senior this year and I am enjoying this last year of our morning routine. We love quick fruit smoothies with fresh berries and greek yogurt in the blender.
ReplyDeleteMy husband travels to work, so our mornings are early. I get the coffee all ready to go the night before and use the program setting so we wake up to hot coffee. The more I can do the night before, the smoother the morning.
ReplyDeleteI love slow mornings with my little boy and a good cup of coffee!
ReplyDeletecoffee first, then eggs! :)
ReplyDeleteI like to include some protein - carnation instant breakfast is good for my skinny kids!
ReplyDeleteMy absolute FAVORITE way to start the day is throwing on clothes, driving down to the beach, pulling out by outrigger canoe and paddling in the beautiful waters of Newport Beach. It's quiet and calm and the only people you see are those on the water. Perfection.
ReplyDeleteWe always start the day with oatmeal, but could certainly use more protein in our lives!
ReplyDeleteI am strictly a cold cereal girl, but my boys all love Jimmy Dean sandwiches. I've also been making bagel thins with cream cheese & fresh cucumbers that everyone is loving right now. It's all about variety!
ReplyDeleteDuring the week, I have to make and pack four lunches so, the kids just grab cereal, bagels, or toast themselves and then one child will come and help pack the lunches...after they leave with Dad to go to school, I get coffee and Kashi or any other type fiber/healthy cereal. On the weekends or days off of school is when we have our pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. the stuff that takes longer although these breakfast sandwiches look good and are fast so they can work well on school days...thanks for the chance to win
ReplyDeleteAs I get older and no more kids at home, I love to sleep in-- 7:30 am. Each day is a different breakfast- cereal/banana, eggs/bacon, French Toast, oatmeal/fruit, cinnamon toast, pancakes. The Jimmy Dean item like the Egg McMufgin are GREAT!!!
ReplyDeleteCoffee, and lots of it!
ReplyDeleteI like to start my day out with orange juice and sausage and gravy!
ReplyDeletereklaw422 at Hotmail dot com
Turn on the coffee pot, shower, makeup, hair, remember to get dressed and out the door by 5:30 AM.
ReplyDeleteCoffee!!
ReplyDeleteA Dr. Pepper :) So unhealthy, I know!!! On the weekends, though, my daughter and I love Jimmy Dean's sausage!!!
ReplyDeleteI start my day off with prayer and scripture reading. Then I get my workout in. I then feel ready for the day.
ReplyDeleteMaking my Starbucks kcup coffee!

ReplyDeleteI start the day with a good breakfast and a read through the newspaper!
ReplyDeleteOn the weekends I wake up before everyone else and have coffee and quiet time while the sun rises. During the week I've got a schedule to follow. But the best part is snuggling my little boy to get him up in the mornings!
ReplyDeleteI've wondered if the Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches were good. Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteI ALWAYS start with a cup of coffee, then usually make myself something like a piece of toast with peanut butter. But Lee always has what he calls his "concoction"--1 egg (fried in the microwave!), 1 piece of American cheese, and a couple of strips of bacon between 2 waffles. I love his concoction because it gives him plenty of protein to last through long days at school. :)

ReplyDeleteI so wish I was an early bird/morning person...but it does not come natural to me. My favorite time is in the car, telling everyone I love them and waving good bye...not matter how crazy a morning it was, I want them to have a great day at school!
ReplyDeleteMy best chance of starting the day right is to have the kitchen spotless the night before, and then to get out cereal bowls & such on the bar for the kids. I need to be better at this routine!
