Basement updates: built-ins * kitchenette * stone fireplace

09 March 2021

Hello, friends! Just some updates in our basement to share. I showed you the faux brick panel wall that we installed over the summer  (I don't think you can even see it in these pics though!)

Here is what it looked like before while we were trying to figure out what we were going to do:

And here it is after they installed the cabinets and shelving. We used Quality Craft Woodworks and were super pleased with them!

We installed the stone ourselves and used the Rock RidgeValentino White Splitface Marble Panel Ledger from Floor, Decor and More. I'm pretty sure it's the same as the Satori Mystery Ledgestone from Lowe's if that is a more convenient store for you.

I installed it myself  while listening to a good audiobook -- it's really not hard, I promise! Use a premium stone mastic that goes on the back

and a basic tile saw (this is the one we picked up at Harbor Freight) to measure and cut pieces and then stick to the heavily sanded wall.

I filled in some of the gaps and seams with caulk and it made me love it again. Caulk is your  best friend!! We just left the edge raw against the rounded corner. I was so worried about it before doing it or how it would look or if I was going to have to do miter corner cuts but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We also hung some of our favorite movie posters above the Lego/ping pong/mini basketball storage shelves

And here is the kitchenette  -- we got the matte black faucet from Wayfair.

Here is a better picture of when it was being installed. The double doors are just a blanket/sleeping bag closet.

It's coming along!! We're trying to figure out furniture and sectionals down here as well. Stay tuned. :)
