One of the first things when we moved in 7 years ago (can it be that long??) was clip up drop cloth drapes to block out the sun and give some privacy at night. I decided it was time for an upgrade since the clips would come off frequently and I just wanted something a little more tailored. I began the search but everything for this size was SO expensive and it seemed like everything was silk or shiny and I just wanted a basic linen look.
I was thrilled to finally find this shop on Etsy! She does curtains of all lengths and widths and the price was super reasonable because most of the custom ones I was looking at were in the thousands!!
I paid extra for the Ikea tape to be added at the top and am so glad I did! In all the years of Home and DIY how did I not know about this trick before?? You can make your own "pleats" with the hooks! You just slide one side of the hook through a loop and then I counted about five over and then slid the other side up and it made a pleat!! Genius Ikea. I just ordered the curtain rings with little loop on Amazon and they slide so nicely!!
How cool is that?? She also does single, double, triple pleats, or grommets if you are looking for that.

Yes, you read that right. I PAINTED some upholstered chairs.
I had seen it done here first and then some great tips here and tucked it away in my maybe-want-to-try-one-day projects, and then I came across a pair of these pink velveteen chairs on a local ad for $30. They were in pristine condition from an estate sale and I HAD to try it.

First up, I removed the skirts on the chairs to show the legs and give them a bit more updated feel. Getting a little sassy here and showing some leg!

Thanks to some wonderful advice from you all in the comments of this post, I lined the back of the fabric in the kitchen with black out material (just hot-glued it on!) and used some ring clips. I love the way they hang and slide back and forth now.
And then, using Kate’s method, I made a faux roman shade to go above the other window. I didn’t have dowel rods, so I just folded and made some stitches by hand to hold everything in place. I used upholstery tacks to pin it up on the wall.
Pretty painless… It’s purely for looks~we have a white roller shade behind it. It’s puckering there on the bottom right because of my rad sewing skills, but I’m okay with it because if everything in the kitchen looks perfect, then all of a sudden the dirty dishes and sticky floor and fingerprints look out of place…
The fabric is called Jayda Bramble from Better Homes and Gardens, and I would say this picture is the most accurate for the colors:
I have another fabric I’m using on some light fixtures…coming soon!
