Girl and Boy Bedroom Ideas + Modern Bathroom Tile Ideas from the Parade of Homes 2020
03 September 2020
Let's look at fun girl and boy bedrooms and also great ideas for bathrooms from the Utah Valley Parade of Homes!
This beauty is from Marissa Pope Design:

This fun feature wall is from Allison Campbell Design and the color is Roycroft Mist Gray:

This fun hanging bed in the playroom s also from Alison Campbell. The paint color is SW Rockwood Blue Green:

I fell in love with this sloped ceiling girls' room:
This wallpaper (Thibaut Donegal Charcoal) made such a fun statement in this room!

And some boys' rooms:
Bunk rooms were still popular this year as well!

Let's move on to bathroom ideas! I saw alot of floating vanities this year for a more modern look:
Here are some more feminine baths/powder rooms:
I did think this one was super smart to make the backsplash higher so that the mural didn't get ruined with splashing from the sink:
And more masculine ideas:
I hope you found some fun ideas!

Halla – loo – yer, hallalooyer! We’re wrapping this room up. Thanks for all of the suggestions and thoughts on the curtain post.
I really thought we would go with the blush from Target and I was dreading adding something to the bottom and I even tried ordering some blush ones from H&M Home that Jodi R recommended on Facebook but then they were out of stock so I took that as a sign. We put up the BH&G ones from Walmart and she loved them, I loved them, they were the right length so they stayed. Didn’t even iron them! May is such a crazy month with 3 boys in baseball, end of the year performances, concerts, recitals, parties and I honestly wanted to cry adding one more thing to my list -- so I didn’t.
I don’t think the pictures do them justice, and we needed some pattern in there. The lamps used to be in our master bedroom in Virginia and we spray painted them gold. The black framed print is from Hobby Lobby (only $6!!) and the flowers are from a local place called Taipan.
The dresser was also in our master in VA but we gave it a new coat of white spray paint.
This was a fun way to display some of her favorite Instagram photos – we found the bulletin board for $5 at the thrift store and then we had them printed at Persnickety Prints. It was the first time we had used them and I loved the kind of paper they used – perfect for display, it was $15 for all of these pics. Then we just hung them with jute twine and tiny clothespins.
I ordered this print from Minted forever ago because I loved it so much – it’s serene and restful and the hint of pink was perfect for her room. It’s called Mornings Away by Emily Jeffords and then we framed it in an Ikea Ribba frame spray painted gold.
The bed is from Amazon and we only paid $152 with Prime in March – right now it doesn’t look like Amazon is selling it, but watch and it may come back at a great price? Info on the board & batten on the wall is here. The chandelier is from my Grandma’s house ♥
The lamps on the dresser are from a yard sale in Texas FOREVER ago, $5 for both. The frames and greenery are from Ross and local stores.
The white & gold pillows are actually from Walmart for $13 each. The white coverlet is from a thrift store for $5 – I was going to use it as a display blanket in a cute basket but it was in such great shape we washed it and used it on her bed. The blush comforter at the foot of the bed came in a set from Ross – only $29.99. Here is a pic:
The bar cart is a crazy random find at Target – it was an after Christmas clearance find for 90% off! $13!! I checked a few more stores for my sister that wanted one but no luck.
The framed quotes by the bar cart are in Ikea and TJ Maxx frames, just printed out at Costco. The top one was from Etsy for $1.50 and I used some floral wrapping paper from TJ Maxx to wrap the mat.
That’s it! I returned all of the curtain choices that we didn’t use and this makeover ended up being easily under $300 since we had the mattress, chandelier, and dresser -- I think I linked up to everything as we went along – let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for stopping by ~ I’m adding it to the home tour tab.
It’s totally a first world problem, but it’s got me in a rut for Hailey’s room. She wanted white, gold, and blush in her room and so far it’s working pretty well. We were going to finish it up last week and move on but the curtains are giving me a pain. Here’s the story:
I died over these blush silk shantung panels at Serena & Lily, but there is ONE left and it’s 84” I first saw them at the M Loves M office I shared on Friday – but they are pricey so maybe it’s good they aren’t available. Soooo, we had to find some alternates.
Here are the contenders that were in stock – AND you get a sneak peek of her room!
After our initial online searches, our first pick was this blush linen panel from Target. They are the perfect shade and match the comforter at the end of her bed. The problem is that it only comes in 84” length! Grrrrrr. About a foot short! So I need to add some fabric on the bottom, maybe with a fringe trim of some sort?? But that also means more work. Target…why only 84”?? I was also hoping for some more pattern, the solid linen may be too…solid.
The picture don’t really show how these Target gold metallic stripe look, but they may be a little too light? $22.49/panel 95”
My first impression when I got these Walmart BH&G in the mail was that they may be a little sassy brassy but then I put them up and liked them much better! And they come in 95” $17.97/panel
And then there are the plain white Ikea Vivan panels – too much white? I love the more sheer look on these though. $9.99 for the pair!
What do you think? Do you have a strong, burning opinion?? I’d love to hear! Or seen anything else around that would look fabulous in her room as we’re trying to finish it up?
We did a simple board and batten treatment on one of the walls in my daughter’s room. It is a super easy way to add a little dimension and character to a room, especially one that’s painted white! Here’s how we did it:

Go to Home Depot and picked up 12 of the 11/16” X 1 1/2” primed mdf (we only used 10 but it’s good to have extra) Figure about one per foot.

And then three of the the 4” craftsman baseboard for the sides and top of the wall – we already had the same size for the baseboard on our bottom.

1. Paint the wall – we used Sherwin-Williams Alabaster. It’s a great white!
2. Cut and attach the baseboard to the top, bottom (if needed), and sides. We use a simple nail gun that we’ve had forever. Measure twice, cut once! I had to make another trip back when I cut a board (or maybe 2!) too short.
3. Then calculate how far apart you want your vertical boards to be, taking in account electrical outlets. Ours are about a foot apart. We used my daughter’s music theory book held horizontally, she was glad we could get some use out of it. Getting the cuts just right so they fit snugly without much of a gap is tricky.
4. Fill in gaps, edges, spaces, and nail holes with latex caulk (we used 2 tubes)
5. Paint over everything with the same color you used to paint the wall.

Her room is coming along, (UPDATE: See the finished room here!) I’m having a hard time finding curtains that work! We also are going through everything that we’ve been stashing in the closet and getting rid of ALOT. It feels so good! Hopefully we’ll be able to share it with you soon --
