    friday randomness...

    24 September 2009

    It's Friday!
A few random things to share :)

    * Old Navy is having additional 50% off their clearance again (call your store to verify) My store is slim pickins in every dept but womens. If you go, grab a coupon at www.oldnavyweekly.com first. I can never figure out how to get the best ones, so I rely on swag grabber to tell me where they are.

    * Remember how I raved about Colorcharts.org, then they were poof! gone one day? Well.....they're back! Yay~go match paint colors though in case they disappear again :)

    * Here is another inexpensive gift idea: InStyle magazine is only $5 for a whole year subscription at Amazon through Sunday~you can't even buy one issue for that! Perfect for any fashionista~I'm giving it to someone and printing a picture of the magazine cover off, and then mounting it on cardstock with ribbon to announce that it will be coming soon in her mailbox.

Also, if you're out and about,

Bath & Body Works has a printable coupon here for a free full sized Anti-Bacterial Hand Soap with any purchase. So, you could buy a cute little gift bag for $1 and get a free soap for a sweet little gift.

    Have a wonderful weekend~
(I wasn't paid to tell you about these~just passing along deals!)

    design challenge!

Are you ready for your next challenge? I feel like I'm Clive on Design Star :)

    Karin wrote from Utah saying,
"This is our office. It makes me crazy. I would love to get rid of the bench under the window and put 2 small two drawer filing cabinets on each end with a desk top over. I'm not sure what I would use or exactly how that would work. I live in Salt Lake City and that window is the only one we have that faces the mountains so it would be great to have a nice a big work surface and a view too. My goal is a fresh (maybe pops of green) clean looking office. A comfortable place to sit would be nice also. I'd love some input!"

    Thanks,
    Karin

    greatest granola

    22 September 2009

My sister, Kelsey sent some of this to me for my last birthday, and it is dee-vine. I love it, my husband and kids love it~we make a batch and it's gone the next day. Perfect for breakfast with milk, over yogurt, or for an after school snack.
I gave some to my neighbor last week for her birthday in a cellophane bag topped with a ribbon.
Now, you know if it's a recipe from me it's going to be easy, and it is! Promise.
And anything with cinnamon in it? Perfect for fall.

    Kelsey's Granola
    6 cups oats
    3/4 cup honey
    1/2 cup canola oil
    1/2 tsp salt
1-2 Tbs cinnamon (depending on your preference)
    2 Tbs vanilla
    1 cup coconut
1 cup craisins, raisins, or other dried fruit
    1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup almonds (or any other nuts you have)
1/2 cup flax seed or wheat germ (optional~to give it an extra little health kick)

Combine all ingredients in a LARGE bowl. Spray a large cookie sheet with cooking spray and bake at 375 for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown. (I like mine soft and chewy, so I only bake it for 8-10, but if you like it crunchy, it will be more like 15 minutes.)

Want some more fall recipes? Here are some favorites:

    getting a little autumn on...

    21 September 2009

I began to unpack my autumn decor and forgot about my little excursion to Hobby Lobby when all the fall went 90% off last year.
(For inquiring minds, it was the Friday before Thanksgiving, Nov 20 last year)
There I was, all by myself, 8 months pregnant and I just sat myself down smack in the middle of the aisle to go through the leftovers. Here is what I came back with:

    fast friday fix

    18 September 2009

The desk in the laundry room was missing some handles. They weren't standard size, and I liked the existing ones, so I wanted an inexpensive alternative. I remembered something Wendy @ the Shabby Nest had done, and it turned out to be the perfect solution!

I just took some black grosgrain ribbon I had, tied a knot in the middle, then threaded both ends in to the holes, tied a knot behind both to hold it in, and that was it!
