Like me, you may have lots to do today coming off of a holiday weekend.
{sigh} But what if you left the dirty dishes…
and the clean ones…
and mountains of laundry…
and all of the unfinished projects ….
and mail and misc nonsense… and took 19 minutes to make one beautiful spot?Go cut some branches from outside, bring a few of your favorite things or photos together, and let yourself have one spot that makes you smile when you see it. It shouldn’t cost you one penny. Let it be the eye in the center of your storm. It may even give you the courage you need to face the laundry…
I hope your Easter was wonderful~Happy Monday!
Beautiful! I love it, and I love this blog. Of all the home decor blogs that I've begun frequenting--yours is my very favorite.
ReplyDelete(I want to see more pics of your new home! Since you moved, I'm curious to see what the new house looks like with stuff unpacked.)
Happy Spring!
Thank you! I would...except for half of our house is still in the garage while our basement is being finished. It's not a pretty sight right now.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea, Melissa! I think everyone should do that, especially when you start to feel overwhelmed with all you have to get done. I imagine it is even more important when you've just moved, and you're still trying to find a place for everything and get it looking like home!
ReplyDeleteNow that is one awesome and creative idea!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteNancy
Oh this really is one truly wonderful and beautiful spot. I love it. So cheery. You need to link this to Table Top Tuesdays tonight. We all need this. I will have Mr. Linky up by 5 PM. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteIt's sooo nice to see someone else place look similar to mine. :)
ReplyDeleteThe new spot looks sooo cute!
Love the yellow with the green grass. Too bad my forsythia bushes outside are soon to be covered with snow AGAIN here in Utah. I'm jealous of your VA weather. My parents live there and I wish I could visit right about now. Good luck with the laundry.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm gonna go ahead and take that there advice.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Kim
Funny that you would post this, because I did the exact same thing today. Check it out if you get a chance http://notionsonnesting.blogspot.com/2010/04/wanted.html
ReplyDeleteGood Luck surviving the basement completion.
I am a life time VA resident and I couldn't agree more! I have traveled to many places, but I have to say I love the seasons in VA. We actually have seasonal changes..I am not sure if i like Sprign or Fall the best. Love your blog!!
ReplyDeleteI lived in Richmond, VA for four years, and miss it SO MUCH every Spring and Fall. It is a gorgeous place! I sure love your blog. I look at it every day and love all of the creative and beautiful things you do. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteWe are having great weather here in Cincy too. I am a Floridian that just went through her first northern winter and I couldn't be happier to see the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice Easter.
So simple yet gorgeous! Love it :D
ReplyDeleteGemma X
it's exactly what the dr ordered!
ReplyDeleteI love bringing in a little nature! I also love that its ok to leave the laundry and the dishes!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, wish I had some forsythia! I do have some dogwoods I could bring in though!
ReplyDeleteWell, I think this spot is simply beautiful! The calm in the storm...good.
ReplyDeleteWonderful. I have a nice spot too...if I squint my eyes and hang upside down. Yep, looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that bright spot, it snowed this morning! I needed that. At least it is Spring some where.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter. These pictures are really nice, what kind of camera do you use?
ReplyDeleteOh, golly. I NEED courage to face my laundry, that's for sure. What a good idea to make one spot a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteSpringtime in Virginia is really something, isn't it? And yes, I'd say y'all deserve this weather after that winter you endured. Enjoy yourself!
I live near Smith Mountain Lake, VA and I know this spring will be even more spectacular than previous ones because of all the snow. We're on spring break from school and you couldn't ask for more beautiful weather!! Love your blog Melissa!
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteWe lived in Northern VA, (Sterling) for 7 years. It was really nice, loved it. Right now we are in OH and getting ready to move to Utah (military). I too am taking in the beautiful spring weather we are currently having. BUT, I'm also on "alert" and keeping up with all the chores as our house is on the market (remember that?). Sigh. Can't wait to see what you do with your new space! I have that exact green shower curtain from Target, was a steal on clearance.
Have a great day!
Pat
You are soooo talented, I made my DH sit next to me and showed him all the things I wanted him to create for me. I am now officially banned from your blog. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteJust catch me if you can dear DH......
I also have that green and white shower curtain, waiting for me to make pillows or something out of it.
ReplyDeleteLove your spring vignette...my mom always brought in forsythia branches at Easter and hung little nests she had made from half eggshells.
Hmmmmmmmm..........message to Spencer: Lighten up! You really can enjoy lovely flowers in the middle of the messiness!
ReplyDeleteI love yours and I'm going to go out and get some of my snowball bush branches as soon as they're a smidge bigger.
Love your doors!
Warm blessings,
Spencer
I agree with you about VA. We went to DC for a family trip last year- the third week in April. It was so gorgeous! Redbuds and dogwood trees flowering and flowers everywhere. I just couldn't get over it. It's one of my favorite vacations we've taken.
ReplyDeleteI love your photo of your little spring vignette. So simple yet so pretty and inspiring. We are about to move and I wish you could come up here to help me arrange things and decorate my house, b/c I love all of your ideas!
We are in Delaware and yes, it is GORGEOUS this time of year. Amazing. Whenever we hop in the car I'm shouting Look there, look at that tree, oh, look at that one. :) The forsythia on my dining room table are dead, I'm going to try again for a fresh batch, but they are greening up too fast!
ReplyDeleteWe are out in Lynchburg, Virginia and LOVING this wonderful weather, and all the beautiful plants that come with it! My house is still a mess from the company we had this weekend- but I am going to go pick some beautiful flowers and plants to put in our home! Thanks for the ideas!
ReplyDeletePatty~It's a Canon Rebel xt and then I play at Picnik.com I've loved it!
ReplyDeleteI just love your vignette. The simplicity of it is stunning and so fresh and speaks spring. Thank you so much for joining the party. Beautiful vignette. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteYou house looks very normal. But with weather like this who wants to do laundry. Happy spring.
ReplyDeleteRhonda
Melissa, love this post!! aaaah a little spot of serenity amidst "real life"....which we all have! So glad you took those 19 minutes!
ReplyDeleteI love how fresh this space looks. I'm a new sahm who just recently moved into a new home a week after our first child was born, so amongst the caos right now, sitting down to read your blog has been an enjoyable "downtime" for me over the last few months. As for VA, my husband and I miss it dearly. You'll get all four seasons and each one is absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThis made my day! Knowing that I'm not facing that mountain of laundry alone is priceless! And the unfinished projects! (sigh) Thank you ; )
ReplyDeleteWe were just in VA a week ago (Martinsville). I love those yellow bushes. And the white trees everywhere. GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeleteIf you love spring here in VA, just wait until you see our autumn! It will take your breath away!
ReplyDeleteI LOVEEEE the white frames in the last photo (I think)......did you paint those like that? if so please fill me in.
