Like me, you may have lots to do today coming off of a holiday weekend.
{sigh} But what if you left the dirty dishes…april 2010 133

and the clean ones…april 2010 150
and mountains of laundry…april 2010 147
and all of the unfinished projects ….april 2010 132 april 2010 145
and mail and misc nonsense…april 2010 136 and took 19 minutes to make one beautiful spot?april 2010 116 1Go cut some branches from outside, bring a few of your favorite things or photos together, and let yourself have one spot that makes you smile when you see it. It shouldn’t cost you one penny. Let it be the eye in the center of your storm. It may even give you the courage you need to face the laundry…
I hope your Easter was wonderful~Happy Monday!

  1. Beautiful! I love it, and I love this blog. Of all the home decor blogs that I've begun frequenting--yours is my very favorite.

(I want to see more pics of your new home! Since you moved, I'm curious to see what the new house looks like with stuff unpacked.)
    Happy Spring!

  2. Thank you! I would...except for half of our house is still in the garage while our basement is being finished. It's not a pretty sight right now.

  3. That's a good idea, Melissa! I think everyone should do that, especially when you start to feel overwhelmed with all you have to get done. I imagine it is even more important when you've just moved, and you're still trying to find a place for everything and get it looking like home!

  4. Now that is one awesome and creative idea!! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Love the yellow with the green grass. Too bad my forsythia bushes outside are soon to be covered with snow AGAIN here in Utah. I'm jealous of your VA weather. My parents live there and I wish I could visit right about now. Good luck with the laundry.

  22. I live near Smith Mountain Lake, VA and I know this spring will be even more spectacular than previous ones because of all the snow. We're on spring break from school and you couldn't ask for more beautiful weather!! Love your blog Melissa!

  23. Hi Melissa,

We lived in Northern VA, (Sterling) for 7 years. It was really nice, loved it. Right now we are in OH and getting ready to move to Utah (military). I too am taking in the beautiful spring weather we are currently having. BUT, I'm also on "alert" and keeping up with all the chores as our house is on the market (remember that?). Sigh. Can't wait to see what you do with your new space! I have that exact green shower curtain from Target, was a steal on clearance.

    Have a great day!
    Pat

  25. I also have that green and white shower curtain, waiting for me to make pillows or something out of it.
Love your spring vignette...my mom always brought in forsythia branches at Easter and hung little nests she had made from half eggshells.

  26. Hmmmmmmmm..........message to Spencer: Lighten up! You really can enjoy lovely flowers in the middle of the messiness!

I love yours and I'm going to go out and get some of my snowball bush branches as soon as they're a smidge bigger.

    Love your doors!

    Warm blessings,
    Spencer

  27. I agree with you about VA. We went to DC for a family trip last year- the third week in April. It was so gorgeous! Redbuds and dogwood trees flowering and flowers everywhere. I just couldn't get over it. It's one of my favorite vacations we've taken.
I love your photo of your little spring vignette. So simple yet so pretty and inspiring. We are about to move and I wish you could come up here to help me arrange things and decorate my house, b/c I love all of your ideas!

  28. We are in Delaware and yes, it is GORGEOUS this time of year. Amazing. Whenever we hop in the car I'm shouting Look there, look at that tree, oh, look at that one. :) The forsythia on my dining room table are dead, I'm going to try again for a fresh batch, but they are greening up too fast!

  34. I love how fresh this space looks. I'm a new sahm who just recently moved into a new home a week after our first child was born, so amongst the caos right now, sitting down to read your blog has been an enjoyable "downtime" for me over the last few months. As for VA, my husband and I miss it dearly. You'll get all four seasons and each one is absolutely gorgeous.

  35. This made my day! Knowing that I'm not facing that mountain of laundry alone is priceless! And the unfinished projects! (sigh) Thank you ; )
