My husband and I celebrated our 10 yr anniversary last week in New York. (ok we were supposed to go last year, and it’s actually our 11 yr, but last year was dissertation craziness so it got bumped to this year)
I love that place. I want to go back.
But I really cannot imagine maneuvering 5 kids in that city.
And it was my husband’s first time! He’s been a Yankees fan (Boston girls, you don’t have to look) since he was little, so you can guess his favorite part. I’m not going to narrate, so enjoy. :)
You're probably not going to want to hear this but I really don't like NYC at all. I live 9 miles outside the city and have had to go in for business, for fun, and never enjoyed it, not even once. Granted, I like what's there but if they could just take the King Tut exhibit and drop it into Montclair, for instance, I'd be a happy camper! I don't like the noise and the dirt and the crowds... I avoid the city as best I can...
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, New York ... I grew up on Long Island and have been all over NY State, but there really is no place like NYC. Love, love, love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteLast time we went was when my son was in the Macy's parade. Load of fun! I think my favorites have to include the deli's, the natural history museum and just people watching!
ReplyDeleteI want to go!! I think it's be awesome to go in December.
ReplyDeleteWe love NY! My husband and I take the kids every other year to the city for the day . We take the train in (about an hour drive and hour train ride for us) and spend the day shopping & sightseeing and then take in the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular and then of course a stop at FAO Schwartz! It is a family tradition that I look forward to.
ReplyDeleteI love New York! South Street Seaport is one of my favorite stops. The theater! We see as many shows as possible when we're there. Taking an easy walk through Central Park is a nice break of the busyness of the rest of the city. I've been there several times, but sharing it with my husband for the first time was so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to NYC. It's not even on my radar or wishlist to go...BUT I love love love your pictures! NYC's so unique and historical--and it's a living chaos. If it weren't for the crowds, I'd probably want to go...especially after seeing your pics of it.
ReplyDeleteI hope your anniversary 10th or 11th (?) was perfect!
I seriously need that "I yell because I care sign" ! What fantastic pictures, looks like you had an amazing time! Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! I love NYC! Made my way there from Connecticut as often as possible when I was a nanny oh so many years ago. My favorite part is people watching - you can sit in Central Park all day long and just enjoy the view. And it's free! Thanks for the memories..........
ReplyDeleteI love NYC!!! Everything is bigger than life. I would not want to live there but I love to visit! I love all the Broadway plays, and I love Central Park! I just wish they had sweet tea with lots of ice!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your pics. I would love to go to NYC, it's on my wishlist!!!!

I love NYC! I love the energy, the mix of people, Broadway, Rock Center, the Met, Central Park, the Village - all of it! I haven't been in a while, though. I miss it! I love to go and see as many B'way shows as I can. I always end up going to the same places, eating at the same restaurants. I can't get enough!
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the pretzels is making me hungry!

Absolutely everything about NYC ignites a flame in me. However, my husband and I make a bee line for Central Park in our running shoes when we're there together and run, run, run. Rain or shine, it is by far the thing that stays with me long after the bright lights go off and the curtain goes down.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this pics, it brought back so much good memories. I was raised in Jackson Heights/ Queens NY, (kind of the suburb in the city). I Looooooove NYC, there is no place like home. My hubby & I are currently station in Fort Bliss/ El Paso TX, we will be station in Fort Drum/ Watertown NY this coming January. I'm so excited; I can't wait to be close to family & friends again after 10 yrs, It's only a 5 hr drive.
ReplyDeleteI {heart} New York. :) Your photos are fabulous, Melissa! I always love just walking up 5th Avenue.
ReplyDeleteCool pictures!!! They make me really want to go, not that I need more to make me. I, alas, have never been to NYC.
ReplyDeleteNew York, how I miss you (sigh...). My husband and I went 2 years ago and I dream of going back and doing a foodie trip. We did all the sightseeing last time and we want to go again simply to eat all of the amazing food! If I didn't have kids it would be my first place to live. What a great place! Glad you all had a good time!
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures!
ReplyDeleteLove NYC! Now I think I must go back! I couldn't pick a favorite but have been to many of the places you pictured. I do love Central Park in the snow. And my kids and I watch Eloise at Chrismastime every year - just because. And I love China Town. And the subway. And the Taxi's. And... And... And...
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa-
ReplyDeleteHappy 10th anniversary! What a nice way to celebrate it. Your photos are wonderful. I went to college in NYC and worked there after and loved it. It will always be a special place to visit and I am usually the tour guide when friends come along as I know where I am going. Even though I love the visits, I could never live there again unless I could afford an apt over- looking the park.
I am looking forward to going to the BlogHer conference there on August 5, 6, 7.
Did the Yankees win?
My best- Diane
LOVE NY! There's something for everyone and endless places to explore. We love the FOOD. I've only been once (for our anniversary last year!), but can't wait to go back. We are in Virginia too, so it's only 4 hours away....
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was probably biking in central park. Or cheesecake. hmmm...
Oh and your pictures were AMAZING! I loved them. :)
Dream of getting to NYC someday, your beautiful photos have made me want to go even more. thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAs a NY'er I am always amazed at the beauty that outsiders can see in the city. The thing I love most about ny? The people yes they are rude and crude blah blah blah but they would drop everything in a second to help you out gotta love it!
ReplyDeleteI've never been, but have heard great things! Soon...very soon I will get to explore it myself. :)

What fun! Looks like you guys had a great time. It's a wonderful place to explore as a couple, but I'm with you at the thought of taking kids. We took our three boys there when the oldest was 15 and the youngest was 9--and even then I worried a little about them!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite place in the city is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I've loved that place ever since I first read From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and The Cricket in Times Square, many moons ago. Have you read those books? Your kids would especially love Cricket in Times Square, I think. :)
Love ya! Happy anniversary--here's to another 11 happy years!
Happy Anniversary!!
ReplyDeleteNo, I've never been to New York! I've visited more places OUTSIDE the US than in it. LOL
It is on my list of places to visit though!!
I have lived in New York all of my life and I love it. I can't imagine living anywhere else. I am glad you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI have some girlfriends planning a trip to NY in Dec. and were trying to find a good deal on a hotel room. Does anyone have any ideas? Were not oppossed to staying outside the city and taking a train in, etc... HELP :) thanks Morgan
ReplyDeleteLove NYC!!! Love the diversity, the energy, the history, architecture, culture and museums! I love it all! Some have said that people on the east coast are so abrasive or anti-social...My experience has only ever been that people are as friendly as I extend myself. Each visit there has been fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your pics!! Love NYC!! Can I ask what kind of camera you use? Your pictures have a great 70's feel to them, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love NYC! I have been 4x and always want to go back! Couldn't live there but love to visit!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, my hubby and I just booked our first trip ever there for next month!! i'm so excited!! We are going for our wedding anniversary too and have never been! did you see wicked, how was it?? i can't wait!
ReplyDeleteWicked was amazing. I would have seen it every night if I had an extra $120 a ticket :) You'll love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing sites to see! We are trying to figure out what to do for our 10/15 yr anniversary next year. We r suppose to go back to Hawaii but not so sure. New York is on my bucket list but I want to go during the holidays to see all the shop windows and decorations! Glad you had a wonderful time!:)
ReplyDeleteI love all of your photos. I would like to go to NY at Christmastime.
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to visit New York since the day I was born! But I am half a world away with 4 kids and it seems impossible at the moment. Thank you so much for the great pics. I felt like I was really there.
ReplyDeleteI went in May of 2009. Your photos captured it as I saw it. I wish I could have the eye you do for capturing the small things. Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteI love the sign (by the blue cash register) that says "I yell because I care"! Reminds me of something my dad would have hanging in his home (a born and raised New Yorker!)So Italian. So New York!! :)
ReplyDelete(Late comment, just got back to reality from vacation!) I LOVE New York and funny story - that's where we are going for our 10 year (next year.) My hubby has also never been! Love comparisons like that.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to get back (really need to replace my boots that I got there 3 years ago.) Your pics are amazing.
