a merry mistake

19 April 2011

Do you remember this Goodwill chandelier I got back in September for $19.95? We decided it would be perfect in Lauren’s room, but we had to make a few modifications.

You can see how I felt about the “pineapple” top, but Kerry mentioned in the comments:
“I used to have the larger chandy. We figured out that you can unscrew the points coming out of the top. We preferred it that way…”
I love Kerry for suggesting this! We did just that:
February 2011 001 1 Unscrew the top, and then use a wrench to take off the screws holding the individual rods.
Then, we painted it. I was in a hurry, so I did a mighty sloppy job with the yellow spray paint and it looked awful, so I grudgingly went back out to sand down the bubbles and start again. I actually was loving the way it was looking as I was sanding, so we kept it shabby to look like we found it that way at a quaint little antique shop along a civil war trail here in VA {okay..stretching it a bit there}

and also added a little rub ‘n buff in patina (a lovely turquoise color)rub buff We covered the chain with a strip of fabric hot glued around the chain and added some pink pom pom fringe from JoAnn’s around the shades.

  10. Looks great! Love a good "mistake". Any tips on working with Rub-n-buff? i bought it and can't quite get the hang of it. Do I put it on and let it sit and then rub it off? Or put it on how i want it and leave it there? Sorry!

    I just apply it with my finger and let it dry. If it was too much, I lightly
    sanded it off, but mostly it was just wiping on and letting dry...
