gallery wall after

26 September 2011

I wanted a wall full of good memories and things that have meaning to us. But I didn’t want it to look too uniform or matchy…more of a collected over time look.sept 2011 140 1

And yes, I warned you I was going to paint the dresser!
sept 2011 132 1The two round frames above with the carriage prints ^ and the 3 oval ones below are supposed to be holding my kids’ silhouettes, but I haven’t quite gotten to them yet…sept 2011 116 1

  1. Hi Melissa! I found your blog by googling "most popular decor blogs" and I'm so glad I did. I love your style, and this before and after of your foyer specifically is gorgeous! I'm definitely your newest fan :)

  2. melissa*320 sycamore1/8/14, 1:15 PM

not at all! I think it's a great suggestion.

  3. melissa*320 sycamore1/8/14, 1:15 PM

I can't wait to see it, Michelle!

  4. I've been wanting to make a picture wall but the only long wall I have is in the hallway across from the laundry area. Does a picture wall always have to be on a long wall and do all frames have to match? DH hates to hang pictures and he never seems to get them straight even after using a level, careful measuring and marking the spot.  Same way with hanging shelves.  Is there a secret to making a picture wall? What about using walls that are framed out by a large window in living room?

Woah what a transformation, very inspiring! I love how the chairs are the same color as the telephone :)

  6. Lori Lowell1/8/14, 1:18 PM

Love your beautiful gallery wall!  I linked back to you here:   Thanks!  New follower!

  7. So beautiful!!  I know you said that you didn't like your vent cover; if you paint it the same color as the wall it will blend more.  Saw that on HGTV.

  8. melissa*320 sycamore1/8/14, 6:00 PM

Glad I could take you back :) My kids love it!

  9. Christy Holland1/8/14, 6:00 PM

Wow! That looks amazing! Great job! I love your blog so much! So much "real" inspiration! Thanks!

  10. Everything looks great, but I can't stop looking at that phone. I am old enough to remember using dial phones, so I am feeling rather nostalgic.

  11. modern_jane1/8/14, 6:00 PM

Wow! You did an incredible job!!

  12. Sarah Ann May1/8/14, 6:01 PM

I saw a good idea on pinterest for coming up wall vents!

  13. melissa*320 sycamore1/8/14, 6:01 PM

I saw it too! I may have to look into it more so I don't pull out the dynamite :)

  14. I love it!!  I have an old house, which I love, but no good walls for a gallery...I will have to re-examine my space...I want one!

  15. Ax2schneman1/8/14, 6:01 PM

Your wall looks So lovely!! I love how you weren't matchy, matchy too(when I did mine I was). Oh well I can change it again. Thanks for sharing.

  20. melissa*320 sycamore1/8/14, 6:01 PM

    thanks, Christy!!

  21. The dresser looks great. Updated and I love the phone. So neat. Would love a tutorial on the silhouettes of the kids when you do get around to it.

  22. Your wall looks fantastic! One of the best I've seen!

  23. you`ve totally outdone yourself here.  i mean, the rest of your home is gorgeous.  but THIS, this is something else.  i absolutely love gallery walls.  i have family photos dating back to the late 1800s - early 1900s.  i`ve been so intimidated by gallery walls because i can`t get the frames down pat.  you`ve done an amazing job mixing and matching photo frames.  i don`t think outside the box - i`m not creative.  i think in black or write.  as in, every.single.frame must be white.  lol.  i need to break out of that mold.  this is truly beautiful.  you must smile every time you come in.  & i love how you`ve used things that are so meaningful to you.  great job.

  24. It looks beautiful! I love it...even the painted dresser :-)

  25. AWESOME!!  I really love it!  I love that I can remember when a lot of those pics were taken...where does time go?!?  I LOVE the dresser redo too!  How do you do it all?!?!:)  LOVES!

  26. melissa*320 sycamore1/8/14, 6:04 PM

I used heirloom white spray paint (rustoleum from Home Depot) and a mixture of provincial and special walnut on the top. I will post more on the dresser... :)

  27. melissa*320 sycamore1/8/14, 6:05 PM

I love the idea of using shutters!!

  28. melissa*320 sycamore1/8/14, 6:05 PM

thank you for the tip~ I need to do it!!

  29. Kelsey Barber1/8/14, 6:13 PM

Um can I just say I LOVE IT!! You rock. I love the dresser too- I definitely would've painted it too. Love ya!

  30. The dresser looks fabulous! I love it pained the white/cream. It's as though it should have been painted all along. Great work. It looks stunning!

  31. oh my gosh!  i love it so much!!!  the space really looks so bright and open now!

ps- how are you doing your kids silhouettes?  I'd love to do mine (we're doing them w/ our YW at mutual this wednesday) but I can't imagine my kids holding still for that long, do you have a trick?

  32. Beautiful gallery wall.

  33. Christina Monclova1/8/14, 6:15 PM

    Looks Awesome!!
    Such a great job!

  34. It looks fabulous! What a difference. It gives people a reason to pause and look at everything.

  35. I love the look of this wall. The mix of different items is so point on. Nice work. I did an all white-frames gallery wall recently. These are so fun to put together.

Thanks for the inspiration you share!

Thank you for taking the time to leave me a note!
