welcome to our front porch!

22 May 2014

If you remember from our home plans, we have a front porch! I’ve never had a front porch before, so this was so much fun. While things are getting finished up on the inside, I decided to make the front porch a little more inviting:

First up was an old library cart I bought from the online classifieds for $15:
metal school cart
I taped off the wheels with blue painter's tape and gave it a lovely coat of Martha Stewart’s Araucana Teal and applied with my handy dandy sprayer. A watering can with some flowers from holds a stack of magazines in place. Do you want to play some croquet??

I have always wanted white rockers on a front porch! Do you recognize the rug? It was in our basement family room in Virginia, and I thought it would be the perfect candidate for the porch.

For the front door, I debated between a dark dark gray, a bright yellow, and a soft blue-green. I stood there in Home Depot for about 45 minutes, paralyzed!  I loved them all, but finally decided I would probably do a yellow pantry door, and maybe a dark gray on the other side of the exterior door, and so final answer: I went with Martha Stewart’s Tidewater for the outside of the front door. I taped off the windows with the painter’s tape for clean crisp lines,

scotch blue tape for painting a door

plus all around the door hardware as well and taped some very professional looking brown paper to protect from the sprayer:

Now, we’re ready for summer on the front porch, let’s get the inside finished, what do you say??

    1. Sometimes you can find them at school auctions/yard sales. Contact your local schools' district offices to see where they sell their surplus.

  5. I love your front door, side windows, and privacy glass, so it lets in light but people can't see in. BUT, where is your peep hole? How are you going to check who is at your door??? I'm super paranoid like that.

  9. I am in awe of these moms who can just decide to paint their front door, and then do it! IN AWE. I'm paralyzed with fear of imperfection and indecision to get the teeny tiniest project accomplished.

    What a beautiful space.

I am tackling several projects this summer: 1)finish my stairs to 2nd floor - i pulled up the carpet and am refinishing the treads and risers; 2)strip dining room table, painting the base and legs and staining the table top; 3)repaint all of the trim and doors in my house from builder cream to a crisp white. Anyone want to come help with the last one?!!!!

Your porch is so inviting. I love all of it.
