diy growth chart with canning lids

22 January 2015

Well this was a fun project because it cost me nothing and was painless and quick! I came across our old growth chart we had brought with us from our previous home (it was just a stick on type) and it made me sad that my kids had grown so much and I hadn’t documented it, so I decided that I was going to do something about it.

I took a board from the garage -- this was actually from our entry way hooks/shelf in our rental (that we took down and repaired the holes because we needed it out of the way for moving furniture) -- it is just a common 1X6 common pine board.

The paint was just leftover from our home -- revere pewter and white dove in taped off stripes. Press down hard on the tape before painting to seal it well and remove slowly while the paint is still wet.

Then, I wanted something fun for the numbers, but really didn’t want to go to the store, so I thought on that a bit and was putting some jars away in the pantry and saw these canning jar rings! Yessssssss. I just spray painted them gold, printed off the numbers in League Gothic font onto white cardstock, hot glued them to the board, then marked the board with a yardstick, level (every inch), and Sharpie

and there we go. I wanted to keep the colors light so we can mark it up with names and dates and I think it’s going on a wall downstairs. We’ll just have to make sure it’s exactly 2 feet off the ground at that first 2 marker. I think we have some high hopes of some height with going that much over 6 feet!

I’m going to go ahead and say Under $10 Under 1 Hour, especially if you didn't do stripes, but taping them off may have put me a little over an hour -- I didn’t time myself, it was just here and there throughout a busy day. I did not have to buy anything for this, it was just around the house. I love it when that happens!
