  • downstairs bath & not going over budget

    02 March 2011

As we were having the basement finished, we set a cash budget that we were determined not to go above. We learned that you can go cah-razy with so many features in a basement (or a house, or an addition, or anything..) that are so “essential” and “necessary” and will totally “add value” to your home, but you have to draw the line somewhere. I’m so grateful for a husband that keeps me level in this area (did I mention he’s a financial planner?) because I’m afraid that if it were just me and a friendly credit card, I would go cah-razy.

turning a plastic mirror into a wood beauty

    27 February 2011

I was picking up a folding banquet table on Craigslist that is going to be my work/craft table and while I was there, the couple asked if I’d be interested in anything else in their apartment since they were moving. This mirror caught my eye, and $10 later it was mine.
I thought it would be perfect in the downstairs bath as a back mirror, cuz girls like to see the back of their hair when they are getting ready, right? But it was plastic and it looked, well…plastic. We took out the mirror and for the frame,February 2011 095 1

    thoughts on basements

    23 February 2011

About a year ago, we were getting some quotes on getting our basement finished, and I asked you all your thoughts on basements. Your comments were so helpful as we looked what to do with this:

    thrifty treasures 2.22.11

    22 February 2011

I have had a thrifting dry spell.
    Like….nothing. Dry as dirt. Nada.
And then bam! Thursday was jackpot. I hit 2 Goodwills and scored! Maybe these are all from one person dropping stuff off…who knows??
4 of these chairs, $3.99 each (I don’t understand our goodwill’s pricing. Some trashy things are like $99 and these were $4??) Two will go in the entryway, two in my daughter’s room…more on that later.
