Thanks to some wonderful advice from you all in the comments of this post, I lined the back of the fabric in the kitchen with black out material (just hot-glued it on!) and used some ring clips. I love the way they hang and slide back and forth now.
And then, using Kate’s method, I made a faux roman shade to go above the other window. I didn’t have dowel rods, so I just folded and made some stitches by hand to hold everything in place. I used upholstery tacks to pin it up on the wall.
Pretty painless… It’s purely for looks~we have a white roller shade behind it. It’s puckering there on the bottom right because of my rad sewing skills, but I’m okay with it because if everything in the kitchen looks perfect, then all of a sudden the dirty dishes and sticky floor and fingerprints look out of place…
The fabric is called Jayda Bramble from Better Homes and Gardens, and I would say this picture is the most accurate for the colors:

I have to admit, this nearly perfect summer day almost didn’t happen. We’re getting ready to go on our big trip, my to-do list is a couple pages long, and I was thinking of other things we could do that wouldn’t take as much time and picking up some berries at the Farmer’s Market, but look what we would have missed:
the blueberries were huge and scrumptious this year!
I got hit with a stomach bug on the 3rd. NOT fun. We did manage to drive up and visit with some family, and make some easy strawberries (idea from Pinterest!)
We hit a gorgeous sunset on our way back home on the 4th,

Just wanted to let you know that my calendar told me to be at Target this morning since the Wednesday after the 4th was when patio went 75% off last year. I love my calendar because there was the sweet lady with the scanning gun marking it just as I showed up at 8:15. Everything at my store wasn’t on clearance, but lots of chairs, gazebos, cushions, bbqs, etc. were.
