magazine keeper

12 October 2009

I love fall magazines.

I love to keep them and pull them out with my fall decor.

I forget the goodness inside, and so each autumn it's like like saying hello to an old friend.

Throughout the rest of the year, I can leaf through pages, rip out the ones I want for my inspiration notebook, and toss the rest of the magazine and feel clutter free and liberated.

But I can't do that with the fall ones...

The cozy recipes, inside nesting, warm colors, Halloween costume ideas, pumpkin carving, holiday prep, and autumn pictures won't let me.
Do you keep magazines? Certain ones, or all of them?
Are you a page ripper or do you keep it all intact?

  3. I **heart** decor magazines. I don't buy them often because they get pricey, but when I do I keep them for quite awhile. You never know when they will come in handy! After a year or so I'll rip out my favorite parts to put in a binder. I don't want to turn into the pack-rat my husband is!

  5. Yes, I keep my Martha's and place them on my coffee table depending on the season. The Easter ones, 4th of July, Christmas and of course her Halloween. I do love the fall ones more though. :)
I don't have the heart to rip the pages.

  6. I keep them for awhile with the intentions of sorting through them and ripping out the articles I enjoy. Then I intend to put them in a binder, organized by topic. So far my intentions have not gone any farther than just that ~ intentions. Oh, well.

  7. I tend to hold on to the ones I think that have the best ideas and recipes etc in them. As well as my fitness magazines. They all get tucked away into the shelves in my closet. I purged a lot of them when I moved the last time - they are just too heavy. I love the idea of decorating with them come each season though!

  8. I LOVE magazines as well! Just before the move I went thru geez two years worth or more of Coastal Living. I decided I just could not take um to one more house so while the kids played in the blow up kiddy pool I leafed thru my mags and tore out my inspirations. My fave mage are always fall and Christmas!

  9. Funny should blog about this...I have been going through baskets of magazines trying to rip out some decorating ideas and recipes and other things that may interest me and put in my notebook. However, I can't seem to rip my fall and winter holiday books. Too much to rip out and plus they make great for decorating with in those seasons.

  10. I love seasonal magazines and keep them to pull out when appropriate. I'm a ripper if I spot something that is worth trying to make or cook. Have a great day.

  11. Sometimes I'm a page ripper, sometimes I'll keep a whole magazine if there are enough pictures in it that I would just be tearing the whole thing apart. I normally keep a magazine for about a month {or until the new issue} and then go through them again to make sure I don't want anything before I put them in the recycling bin. The ones I hold onto are the specialty publications from Better Homes & Garden and Country French magazine.

  12. I am a page ripper after the season. So when Christmas begins, I'll take my fall inspiration photos and save them in my Fall Decorating Binder with clear protector sleeves.

  13. I feel the same way! There's something about decorations this time of year that just sucks me in. I notice new things in old magazines that never stood out to me before. Worth keeping for sure.

  14. Hm. I think I am somewhere in between on both of them. I keep the Christmas ones, and some of the Thanksgivings. October, not so much. I page rip just about everything except Christmas and Thanksgiving. And Martha. And my old MECompanions. And the very few Victoria magazines. A few others, but not many, make it into the "do not rip, under any circumstances". Others, I rip. No qualms at all.

  15. I am very much a magazine ripper. Love, love mymagazines, but if I kept them all, they would need their own room!

  16. I do this with the Christmas issues of certain mags. I think I have all the Martha's since the beginning of time. It's so much fun to immerse yourself in a season, isn't it?, curled up on the sofa with a stack of pretty magazines.

  17. I try to only keep a few around in plain sight...the rest get stashed away for a rainy day when I need inspiration :)

  18. I am a magazine whore. Sorry for those words but I can't think of another one:) I subscribe to so many that I would be embarassed to tell you how many. I DO rip the pages and then put them in a book to look at later. I also rip out recipes and keep them in a book. I only keep special decorating magazines that I buy and then after a year or so, I rip them too. Whatever magazines that I don't rip, I give to my neighbor. She told me that she doesn't even care if there are pages missing, she just enjoys getting them.

  19. I keep all my October Family Fun magazines in my Halloween box. They have easy costumes to make. I have a couple of years in there.

  20. I keep BHG, Southern Living, and BHG Special Interests. I keep thinking it would be a good idea to rip out the things I want to keep and make some kind of idea book, but I haven't managed to do that yet.

  21. I love magazines, too. I have tons of them, I just can't bear to part with. I can look at them over and over again. It is like, I find different inspiration every time.

  22. I have almost every issue of ME Home Companion. I sold year one and two on eBay for about $6 an issue but I kept all the rest when the collector value went down.

  23. I love magazines! :) I do not love the big pile of unread ones I have in my Family room. I need to set aside a night to just go through them, rip out the recipes and ideas I like and recycle or toss the rest. I have a binder for ideas...I always save the entire issue of Scrapbooks, Etc. (which I never read).

  24. I am a hopeless magazine keeper..

    I have stacks.

I get tons of free magazines (internet) and I buy them when I find subscriptions for 5.00,
so i have a huge pile..read and unread.

  25. I love magazines... I love to be able to flip through the pages again and again. However, I am definitely a page ripper. I can't stand having clutter around and too many magazines means too much clutter.

  26. Much to my husband's disappointment, I won't dare throw away my Southern Living magazines. I don't mind tearing out pages from the others, but my SL's must stay intact- therefore I'm unable to display them in a cute basket or on the coffee table since I have a destructive toddler running around the house :)

  27. I've cut back on my magazine subscriptions. I just couldn't keep up with the clutter. Now I read them at the library. I can make colored copies there for 15 cents, if need be. I don't like fall decorating, since it doesn't go with my color scheme. However, I LOVE Christmas decorating, and will buy and save some of the nicer issues. I agree that BHG's special interest publications are some of the best. [P.S. Just a reminder to recycle magazines... many thrift shops and libraries sell them to raise money.]

  28. I hate to rip pages, and don't have a creative storage option for them, other than a notebook. I don't keep my mags because I don't have a good place to keep them either! Guess I have a dilema. Maybe I subscribe to too many. Naw, that couldn't be it. :)

  29. A few years ago I got rid of a ton of them, but I've always kept my favorites. I picked up an old wood magazine holder (prolly used in a doctor's office somewhere) and use that to keep each month's magazines...past and present. Currently it holds October issues from BHG, Cottage Living, Country Home and Family Circle.

  30. I was just looking at my bookcases. I had gone through and kept only the ebst magazines and put them in cardboard magazine holders. They are now all dusty and gross. Not what I had intended for my inspirational freinds. I need a bettter system. I hadnt thought about putting the seasons' magazines in thier appropriate boxes witht he decorations. That makes sooo much sense!!

  31. I too love fall/Halloween and Christmas magazines. I too save them, in fact I have a tote filled with them. I thank goodness my husband doesn't care that I am a keeper of magazines, because he is too.

  32. I love getting magazines in the mail. I can't wait to look through and see what's new. I take it as a real compliment when I saw you signed up as one of my followers! Thanks!

  36. Who knew we were all alike! I also rip out the good articles, recipies, and decor pictures I like and organize them in a binder.

But I have Martha Stewarts from 2000 which need to go into the recycle bin. And I do love the holiday ones too :-)

Magazines recycled so far since April = 59!

  37. I used to be a magazine hoarder ... I had Country Home and Country Living back to the 80's. When I moved 2 years ago, I got those copier paper boxes and would fill two boxes each garbage day and put them out the night before without the lids on. Miraculously everytime the following morning they were gone. There are tons of magazine junkies out there. I think my brother has every National Geographic from the 50's to today!!!!!
I now only get two magazines a month and only save 1 year of each. As one is delivered ... the oldest magazine gets tossed.

  38. I am a page ripper! I can't help myself I hate the clutter of magazines..But I get around to it...I dont rip up my "dream" catalogs ( ex: Ikea, pottery barn oooh the organization and beauty)I keep them until the next one...I know I'm goofy. When I do rip them out I have a three ring binder with clear sleves I organize them into catagories, and I do the same with recipes i rip out as well, it helps me find order and keeps my favorite things organized!
