Here is our master bedroom when we first moved in to our Texas home:

Doesn't it look "master"? ;)
We replaced all the carpet in the house ASAP and painted the walls Kwal's "Crisp Khaki". I bought the comforter set from Walmart and put up some temporary window mistreatments, but wanted a little different look about a year later

Here it is now:

We replaced the ceiling fan,
painted our cedar chest heirloom white, used our Target black furniture, turned the existing comforter over to the solid side and used most of the existing pillows, put the bed on risers for additional storage underneath, (didn't quite get to making the bedskirt longer did I?) and bought 2 cream embroidered shams at TJMaxx for 9.99 to give it more of a custom, not out of the bag look.

I found the fabric at an after summer crazy fabric clearance~it's actually outdoor sun and shade fabric, but it looks all the same and has a nice, heavy crisp feel to it.

I cut, ripped, hot glued some of the edges over, and used
Nester's fold, clip and poof treatment at the top. I found the blinds on the windows for $5 each at a yard sale, so the fabric was purely to dress the windows, not cover them.

The headboard.
The headboard.
Again, I wanted a more custom look, and it didn't turn out exactly as I had imagined, but I'll tell you what I did and what I wish I would have done tomorrow. :)

Happy Wednesday!
Looks beautiful! Looks like a nice way to end a hard day.
ReplyDeleteNice! I've been thinking of making a shower curtain out of that same black/white fabric! I love how it looks.....good job!
ReplyDeleteAmanda
LoOVE the window mistreatments. Gotta love clearance sale fabric! Currently trying to decide what color/pattern to mistreat my living room windows :)
ReplyDeleteHey, I like it! It looks very nice. The before looked nice, too. But I understand how we all like a little change now and then. The before the before was when it was really in need of your designer touch! You did very well making it look great!
ReplyDeleteNancy
Love the changes! I am especially digging the window treatments. LOVE!
ReplyDelete~WOW! GORGEOUS room! Love the drapery fabric. :)
ReplyDeleteYour room is soooo pretty. My favorite part is the fabric for the windows. Great find!
ReplyDelete~Amy
The room looks sensational. Love the window treats and the trunk.
ReplyDeleteI love that fabric you used for the window treatments
ReplyDeleteNow there's a bedroom I could curl up and read a book in! You did a fab job, I love it!
ReplyDeleteKrista
Truly stunning! I love the color choices!! Cant' wait to read tomorrow's post!
ReplyDeleteYou have a great classic style! I'm always impressed with your rooms.
ReplyDeleteFab-u-lous, dahling. :) Love that white chest at the end of the bed. I would die of embarrassment for anyone to see our master bedroom right now. It's a total episode of one of those makeover shows. :s
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love the bedroom. It looked good in the before pics too. But its always nice change things up to make you feel like you redid the whole room!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! Can i ask where you got that first headboard? The scroll-y one? Its just what ive been looking for. I love the second one too!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom turned out gorgeous! You have a good eye for decorating! I love the curtain fabric which are very cleverly made! Good job!

Your room looks so inviting. I've been wanting to do something similar to our head board. How did you do it?
ReplyDeleteThe changes you made to the MBR made such a difference. I really like the fabric on the windows.
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful! Can't wait to see how you made your headboard. :)
ReplyDeleteSO pretty. . . so elegant. Do you miss it? Or are you ready for a new adventure?
ReplyDeleteI love the colour combo too. That black Waverly fabric is very pretty. Instead of getting a new bedskirt, you could always add another layer of fabric (sewn or fabric-taped) to the exisiting one. I did that for a friend and she used bedsheets for the fabric.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! Nice a and relaxing. Love the Color Palette.
ReplyDeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteThe room looks beautiful. I love that you used the solid side of the comforter and moved the "pattern" to the window treatments. It looks cool and crisp, and just lovely.
Thanks for sharing,
Traci
I love seeing a room's evolution. There's the after, the after after, and the after after after. You get the idea. It just keeps going. I love the new black & white curtains, the solid bed spread and the cream matlasse pillows. Those make the biggest difference for me. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful. I just love using black (even though my husband isn't as fond of it as I am).
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
I love this look. I would have never thought of using the material for the curtains, but it looks great. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic! I love everything you've done.
ReplyDeleteI used that same exact fabric for my dining room drapes!! Love it! Your room looks great! Love all the changes you made!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did in here.
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful! Great job
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful room Melissa!! I've had a hard time figuring out what to do with a window in my office - a desk butts right up to one side, I like how you did your curtains to one side - do you think that would look ok with only one window? like you I just want the curtain for looks, not to cover the window
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
~TidyMom
Wow Melissa! It's awesome! You did a fantastic job and I love the new look on the headboard!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!

Beautiful!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Bedroom! Can you tell us how long ago you got your bedding? It isn't what I thought I was looking for...until I saw it on here...and I love it!! What is the brandname? Do you know if Walmart still carries it? Thanks so much! Love the blog!
ReplyDeleteSouth Dakota Girl
The room looks great. I really like where you are going with the headboard and I love the big square pictures above the bed. Curtains look great too.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of making a shower curtain out of that same black/white fabric! I love how it looks.....good job!
ReplyDeleteWork from home India

ReplyDelete-Marissa
Marissa~yes, ma'am! One of my favorite places on Earth!
ReplyDeleteI love the paint color you chose. I would love to paint our master bedroom that color but I don't live near a Kwal Paint store. Do you know the "recipe" for that color? Thinking maybe Lowe's could reproduce it. Any help?
ReplyDeleteIf you go to colorcharts.org and type in crisp khaki, it will show the closest matches. Cool huh? http://www.colorcharts.org/ccorg/resources/results.aspx?find=U9PQ-3NEL-QV85 It looks like Linen by Behr is a close match, or Lowes should have it in their database. Good luck!
