I have been wanting to put up something to block the setting sun on our back porch since we moved in. It’s hard to have conversation and enjoy your meal when the sun is glaring in your eyes, right? And we have lived here for 2 years and we’re just getting around to it which is right on Melissa schedule. :)
Hello! Today we’re talking curtains for the family room for our
big tall windows. The window gives gorgeous views of the mountians and right now the sun is directly overhead during the day so it doesn't glare in the windows. But in the fall, winter and
early spring the sun is at just the right angle where sun comes pouring in and
it can get hot and bright. Sooo, I started looking at tall curtains and let me tell
you they are EXPENSIVE. Anything over the standard ikea 108” length will cost
you dearly. But I didn’t want to spend dearly, especially if I wasn’t IN LOVE
with them. And I found nothing in a 12ft tall size that I was in love with. So, I
turned to drop cloths! I bought this 9X12 one for $20. You can also get them at Home
Depot and Lowes, but these are the least expensive. A warning: some reviews
said theirs had 2 seams(?) but mine was right down the middle so it was
perfect.
I feel like I begin all posts with “do you remember… “ and here I go again! Do you remember the clearance striped duvet covers at Target that I got to copy my sister? Go here to see what I’m talking about. Anyway, I am FINALLY doing something with them. They weren’t quite long enough, so I took the king size, cut it in half,
I used to think that windows with black trim were for sleek, ultra modern homes. Now, I’m seeing them pop up everywhere, even in traditional settings.
For the fabric covered roller shades in the master bath, I simply ironed my fabric,
wait…YES. I ironed.
One of the favorite stories in my family is when my aunt pulled out her ironing board and her daughter (I think in 1st or 2nd grade?) asked, “what’s that, mommy?” :) Anti-ironing runs strong in my family. We’re all about wrinkle free and throwing things in the dryer with a wet cloth.
Wow! That was quite a party Nester threw last week! I don't think I ever made it through all of them, but I was completely inspired, found lots of fun new blogs, and wanted to share some mis-treatments I am putting in my "file" of home ideas. Does anyone else keep a file like this that they just put ideas in for future reference?
I put links to all of them, and I hope these ladies are okay with me sharing them on my blog. If not, let me know and I'll take them down pronto!
Look at this cute one in a laundry room with the animal print:

You all know that I love the Nester . Well, today she is having a window mistreatment party. What is a window mistreatment you ask? Here is her definition from her own words:
Mistreatment: (n). covering for a window that is quick, cheap and pretty. may or may not need hardware does not require sewing. a real designer's worst nightmare.
Mistreating: (v). the act of treating a window with dignity and respect without use of the following: hundreds of dollars, sewing, time, crying, divorce, child neglect...
She has the best ideas and takes you through step by step, and these are all borrowed, stolen, lifted from her~thanks, Nester!
Everyone is posting pictures of the mistreatments they have done, so here are mine. *WELCOME* if you are visiting from her site! I'm going to head on over there and check all of them out~I love getting new ideas!
