  • beautiful bathroom by Margot Austin

    02 September 2010

     margot bath This bathroom was designed by Margot Austin. Isn’t it just lovely and serene? She has a blog and this is in the River interior {much more loveliness to be had over there}

    I emailed to ask the fabric name and paint color and she emailed back!

    Fabric: Four Seasons in the color Winter by Victoria Hagan Home

    {melissa note: I found it here, but I’m sure it’s a pretty penny}

    Paint: Farrow & Ball paint in Lamp Room Gray.

    {melissa note: if you go to colorcharts, a 97.7% match is Behr’s Plymouth Gray if you don’t have Farrow&Ball near you}

    Margot also said:

    “I got the fabric from Primavera, a showroom in Toronto that sells to the design trade. If you aren't a designer or aren't working with one, you might try googling the fabric name to see if you can find a general retail source.

    I also think the fabric of the IKEA Stockholm Blad curtains in the neutral colourway has a similar neutral leafy feel, so you an see if you like that one...”

    Thank you for the inspiration and sharing the info with us, Margot!

    Happy Thursday~

    house stalking

    26 August 2010

    I was driving past my old middle school when we were in Montana, and this house made me do a double take. It’s across the street from the school and I used to walk past it everyday, but I don’t remember it in this great of shape. Look what a new coat of paint, some home made shutters, a new porch railing, and some new light fixtures, and some simple landscaping (maybe new windows?) can do. I want to buy it and it’s not even on the market!

    008 1 The door is the same one from the 60’s, but isn’t it amazing what a coat of black paint can do?

    Don’t you just want to see inside now? Am I officially a stalker?

    faking built-ins

    24 August 2010

    As we were getting our basement finished, we asked our contractors how much built in shelves would be on either side of the fireplace. They quoted $2000.
    Yikes. No thank you. We are at the end of our budget.
    A few days later, I was in Walmart, and saw these Better Homes and Gardens 5 shelf bookcases on clearance for $50 each.

    They were all gone, but the brown and black floor models were sitting there. I tracked someone down and asked if I could go ahead and just buy the floor models. They said yes, I ran home and measured, ran it by my husband, and then came back and picked them up that night, fully assembled.

    thrifty treasures 8.23

    22 August 2010

    I wasn’t planning on yard-sale-ing this weekend, but there was a big church yard sale not too far from our house, so my daughters and I went. I could tell it was going to be good because there was a long line waiting for it to open at 8. This is one I will mark on my calendar~everything was completely organized, great junk, low prices.
