scrabble gallery wall art

14 September 2011

You know I’m working on the front entryway (I guess proper folk call it the foyer), and I saw an idea on Pinterest that I had to run with.
I spotted this picture on a square wooden board at the Goodwill and thought it would be a perfect candidate for $1.95.

This scrapbook paper is at Michael’s. It is a thin layer of cork on one side and you can peel off the back to reveal the sticky side. ($1.95)
sept 2011 044 1 And stuck it right over the flowers on the board. I call this shot
cork cum random cherry tomato.
sept 2011 046 1Then I hot glued scrabble letters right on top. (look for used scrabble games at thrift stores and yard sales! these are from this project)

Here are all of our names, but I smudged out my husband’s name because, I don’t know, I’m a slight bit paranoid about crazies on the internet looking up where we live?? But I loved how they all fit together!

And our last name may or may not be Stewart…
And this may or may not be a blurry picture..sorry.
I hot glued the letter board (spray painted in Krylon’s Ocean Breeze) as well and then the letters hot glued on to that..hot glue madness around here. Our first piece of artwork is complete for our gallery wall! I’m also adding it to Under $10 Under 1 Hour. Which reminds me…it’s almost time for our annual U10U1 party! Details coming soon…

A few more tidbits for the day:
* I don’t know if you’ve noticed the gift card goodness around here lately but you can enter for
and another one here with lots of good paint tips.
Wow!

* Bath & Body Works has a great coupon code right now…
F114177 will get you 20% off plus free shipping when you put $25 worth of merchandise in your bag before using the code. They have their wallflower 2 packs on sale for $6 each, so with the code you get them for $4.80 a piece delivered to your door! I’m pretty sure that’s as good as they ever get. I love their autumn scents!  (I have no affiliation with B&BW)
AND another thing caught my eye on Pinterest…this person refills her wallflowers with essential oils! Has anyone ever tried this with success? Hmmm…
Okay, that’s all…for now.
Happy Wednesday~

I tried this for my household and couldn't get it to work until I tossed in the words FAMILY and GAMES.   Really cute idea!

  4. That's kind of funny that you smudged out your husband's name, but you have to keep in mind that it is now like a crossword puzzle, so looking at the other names, it's pretty easy to figure out his name (so watch out for the crazies!). I made one of these a few months ago using all the names of my grandchildren. It hangs in the game room. I love it!

  7. I NEED this!!  I LOVE IT! I have wanted to do this, but  have yet to find the tiles at garage sale/goodwill...maybe someday!  I also think the idea of giving one to Mom with all the grandkids names would be a fabulous gift.

Ok so I am glad I am not the only one who is paranoid! I do exactly the same thing, I even keep it vague as to where I live just naming the closest big city. Yes there are crazies out there even though we don't want to admit to it but they are there and they will come lookin' for ya if your not careful so I totally get it. :)

  10. Melissa, that's ADORABLE.  I love it!  It'd be fun to see if you can get all the names to go together.  I love that the last name you chose for the photo is one that would garner lots of points in Scrabble!  :)

I'm thinking this would be a cool bridal shower gift--to do this with the new last name and the first names of the bride and groom, and then give the bride a bag of Scrabble tiles so that she can add the names of their children later on.  Or, for a baby shower, you could do one just with the first, middle, and last names of the baby.  So many possibilities!

  11. I had to do a double take when I saw the picture you purchased at Goodwill.  I used to have that same picture!  Purchased it new from a Home Interiors party many years ago.  It has long since been sold at one of my garage sales, but I enjoyed it for many years.

  12. Melissa ~

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea.  I have a friend who loves the game of scrabble AND is moving into a new home soon, so this may make a perfect combination gift for a sweet house warming blessing...  Thanks for the great idea!

Such a good idea! I am still going to look for old scrabble games for gifts now... I didn't even think of the points for Stewart, mostly because I love a certain Jimmy with that last name :)

  19. Too cute, I am so gonna do this.  I found some vintage scrabble letters in green and have been waiting for a fun project, so glad I found your blog through pinterest (my new obsession)!  Also on a side note,  one of the "L" names on your art is my son's name and our last name is Stewart.

  20. Melissa, you take the simplest ideas and turn them into the absolute cutest I-must-make-that-now-or-I'll-die projects! Also, I don't know your husband's name, but there's a billboard in my town and I swear, it's a picture of him (except that it's just a local insurance guy). I always think I should take a picture and send it to you! Have a great day. Can't wait to see the entryway (and the kitchen too!)!
