We were talking about sconces and light fixtures this week, look at what Jenny at Little Green Notebook did to brighten hers up a bit…with nailpolish! ♥

Greetings, friends! This week are right in the thick of lighting decisions. I wanted to discuss ALL lighting in one post, but there are so many choices out there, I’m going to divide them up. Today, we’re talking sconces. I love sconces -- they give a little touch of warmth and thoughtfulness to a space, don’t you think? They can also be super expensive, but there are some surprising choices I am loving for under $50:
1. Cottage $30
2. Remington $49
3. Schoolhouse $19
4. Mason $42
5. Whitford $40
6. Zinc $20
7. Sadie $30
8. Archie $49
9. Portfolio $22 buy your own shade!
10. Polished $35
11. Arm Sconce $40
12. Dovray $20
What do you think—any favorites? We haven’t chosen yet, but these options are all in the running. I may snag #3 while they still have them at that price, I just have a thing for schoolhouse lights.
I love our electrician -- he walks around with us and plays devil’s advocate, which I appreciate. He knows we have a budget (can you imagine not having one?? You could be Veruca Salt all day long) and warned me about sconces, said they will be at least $80 a pop, why not just do the light bar above the mirrors? I actually do love people who try to save me money, but I also love splendid solutions that don’t break the bank. Bring on some sconces!

Valentine’s Day is a month away! Here is a gallery of past Valentine ideas from around here – click on the picture to take you to the post:
I found these Christmas popcorn canisters at a warehouse for 25 cents each. Someone must have eaten all of the popcorn, perhaps that is why they were so inexpensive?( for locals, it was at NPS Market Square.)
I spray painted them with Rustoleum spray paint in heirloom white (this is still my favorite spray paint: love the nozzle, the coverage, the colors, the way the spray comes out and they aren’t paying me to say any of that) Since this is thin tin, it won’t absorb any of the paint, so be sure to spray very light coats, let dry, spray some more. If you spray too much, it will run.
Hello there! It’s our first CME of 2014:
* 10 Photography Lessons Learned from On Sutton Place
* the drop box in Seoul, Korea: an extraordinary story of love.
I love these Anthro knockoff curtains from Lindsay at Makely:
* look at these exquisite paper snowflakes
* a sweet lesson on goal-setting that my father-in-law shared.
* 3 Zoya nail polishes for $12
I hope your weekend is: (pick 2) wonderful/relaxing/exciting/productive/warm/fun/rejuvenating/inspiring/beautiful/crazy/memorable
Happy 2014! The break went by way too fast for me. In fact, I *assumed* Christmas break lasts until the Monday after New Years, right? Wrong! We got the automated phone call from the school on Thursday morning wondering where our kids were when we were lounging around in our pajamas watching dumb youtube videos and making some important cleaning/ laundry plans for the day. I had to double check the school website to make sure it wasn’t a cruel joke and then scrambled to get everyone dressed, somewhat presentable and out the door, kind of like a Home Alone “we slept in!” We are still adjusting to this place.
We gorged ourselves in December with holiday treats and festivities and eating out on vacation while visiting Grandma and Grandpa, but we are trying a no sugar January – the whole family! Right now, I’m wondering whose dumb idea this was anyway but mostly I want a nice soft warm chocolate chip cookie (or the dough!) more than about anything. I tried a skinny frosty shake that I had pinned that was supposed to taste JUST like a real frosty, but I am sad to report that it did NOT. It wasn’t bad, but to say it tasted just like a Frosty was kind of blasphemous. The good news is that fruit has never tasted so good, so maybe this will have a happy ending when we see how addicted to sugar we are and we begin to make some some healthier choices.
