  • rooster makeover...

    04 October 2008

I'll post my yard sale treasures from this weekend a little later, but here is one of them. This pair of roosters were 25 cents because they were chipped and one had been glued back together. I think they look kind of mean too~look at those eyes! Yikes! But, we're looking at *potential* here, so minus a quarter later, I brought them home with me to see what we could do. Doesn't everyone need a rooster in their kitchen somewhere?

    my cvs obsession continues...

    30 September 2008

First of all, if you don't have a CVS, let me take a moment to mourn for you
    (.....)
You don't have to read any further. I think I will have withdrawals if we move somewhere that doesn't have one.
If you do have a CVS, mine had all of their croc-type shoes 90% off, so the kids ones were 79 cents and the adults were 99 cents. I stocked up on every size for boys from baby on up to 8 yrs old. I'm going to have 3 little boys, and my boys live in these for most of the year here, so I went to town! My little boy had a pair from CVS this summer and they have held up so well. They are called "Doggers" and are the best pair of non-brand name crocs we have found. They are antibacterial and odor resistant too. Like I need to be selling you on them, they are 79 pennies! :)
    Look how sweet and tiny...

You may want to call first so that you don't waste precious gas driving all around. One of my stores was only 75% off , and the other was 90%. You may also want to be on the lookout for Hannah Montana and High School Musical school stuff~that was also 90% off. Good luck!

    melt my heart...

    29 September 2008

Last night, I was reading some books with the kids. My 6 year old daughter left and I didn't think much of it. She was calling from the kitchen table, "how do you spell 'could?' I was telling her how to spell it, she couldn't hear me, so of course each time got louder and more agitated.
    C-O-U-L-D!
Then, later we were yelling, er, calling everyone to come in for family prayer, and she said, "just a minute!" and of course we said, "no, you need to come right now!!" Well, later on, I was cleaning up and found this at the kitchen table with her markers:
Gulp. She didn't even finish. And she was already asleep. I just wanted to cry. I get guilty mom of the day award. Don't you just wish you could push the rewind button somedays, and then re-record??

    ode to the little cup

    24 September 2008

I believe the correct term is ramekin, but we prefer "the little cups" in this house. These are the best little gems...we use them for everything! When you just want a smidgen of something, these are perfect. I feel so much better about ice cream when I eat it out of one of these. We use them for watercolor painting. When we have peaches, applesauce, or jello with dinner, they keep everything from mixing together. Who likes applesauce running into chicken nuggets?? yuck. Okay, my one and a half year old does. But the rest of my kids will make horrid faces and do that uu-uh-uu-uh-uh and rock back and forth and push the plate away if this happens. Please tell me this happens in other households. Thank you, little cup for saving us from these episodes. I know there are great recipes that you can bake in these also. Can't say that I have tried any, but I know there are some out there~like creme brulee?? They are dishwasher, oven and microwave safe. The best part?

    Happy Fall, Y'all!

    21 September 2008

Can I say that now that we have been in Texas over a year? :) Happy First Day of Autumn! I decided to bring fall/Halloween to the front porch on Friday.

I price matched some little containers of mums at Wal-mart for $1.96 last week for a bit of fall color. In BH&G they had a bunch planted in pumpkins and they were so darn cute, so I tried to replicate. These are more of the fake penny pumpkins my mom found at Michaels a few years back and I just cut the tops off a few, drilled some holes in the bottom for drainage and planted them inside, after retrieving them from my son who was playing soccer (!) with them

    Back to the Dollar Tree...

    15 September 2008

I thought my fall decorating fun from the Dollar Tree was over, until I found this cute, cheap project from Joy. She is queen of brilliant beautifulness from the dollar store and spray paint~go check her out! Another blog to fall in love with and follow...

So, back to my Dollar Tree I went to get those frames with 3 openings. Joy printed hers on copied newspaper, but I don't have a copier, so I just printed onto some fall scrapbook paper. I used "Jackinput" font at 236 size.
